Abstract: A method for wirelessly synchronizing a radar detector to a radar transmitter includes wirelessly receiving a first instance of a frequency-modulated continuous-wave (FMCW) radar signal directly emitted by the radar transmitter, determining a frequency slope change event in the FMCW radar signal using the first instance of the FMCW radar signal and temporally synchronizing the radar detector to the radar transmitter based on the frequency slope change event. Determining the frequency slope change event may include generating a frequency slope monitoring signal. In some embodiments, generating the frequency slope monitoring signal comprises mixing the first instance of the FMCW radar signal with a second instance of the FMCW radar signal. The second instance of the FMCW radar signal may be a reflected instance or a locally delayed instance of the first instance. A corresponding apparatus, computer readable medium and system are also disclosed herein.

  • Patent number: 10302755
Abstract: A method for determining location information for an airborne target includes synthesizing a cyclic transmit signal, transmitting an electromagnetic beam corresponding to the cyclic transmit signal, providing a plurality of vertically offset return signals corresponding to at least two receive antennas that are vertically offset, down-converting the plurality of vertically offset return signals with the cyclic transmit signal to provide a corresponding plurality of baseband signals, determining magnitude and phase information for each vertically offset return signal as a function of range from the corresponding baseband signal, and determining elevation information for an airborne target from the magnitude and phase information. Azimuthal information for the airborne target may be determined by tracking amplitude variations in the return signal in response to azimuthal rotation of the receive antennas. A corresponding apparatus, system, and computer readable medium are also disclosed herein.

  • Publication number: 20150204969
Abstract: A method for determining location information for a target may include generating a cyclic transmit signal having a fixed frequency slope over a substantial portion of each cycle and an operational frequency that is selected to penetrate foliage, transmitting the cyclic transmit signal without up-conversion with at least one transmit antenna, down-converting two or more return signals received from corresponding return antennas with the cyclic transmit signal to provide a corresponding set of baseband signals, extracting magnitude and phase information for each return signal as a function of range from the plurality of baseband signals, and determining a location of a target from the magnitude and phase information. A corresponding apparatus, system, and computer readable medium are also disclosed herein.
