    Abstract: A paint and method are divulged for protecting the silver film of mirrors. The paint in its preferred embodiment includes a metal carboxylate which will contribute metal ions, namely stannous octoate for the contribution of stannous(II) ions in an amount of 0.5% or greater by weight. Alternate methods of the invention utilize an additional coating over the paint, such as an acrylic, epoxy or blend thereof which is UV curable. In another form of the paint, copper octoate is utilized in a minimum amount of 0.5% by weight for contribution of copper(II) ions.

    Abstract: The present invention is directed to a coating powder base composition having a viscosity of between about 2 to about 85 Pa·s and including a particulate organic pigment tinting agent. Such base composition can be produced in large batches and then smaller portions of such batches can be mixed with a tinting agent comprising solid organic pigment particles characterized by a maximum surface index of about 50 to obtain a desired color for the final coating powder. The invention also includes methods for making such coating powders as well as for coating substrates using such coating powders.

    Abstract: The present invention provides a method for preparing a conforming shield enclosure for shielding a semiconductor device of an electronic component assembly comprising the steps of: (a) metalizing a sheet of a thermoformable polymer with an admixture of a conductive metal and a resin; and (b) thermoforming the metalized thermoformable polymer from step (a) to form a conforming shield enclosure; wherein the conforming shield enclosure has dimensions conforming to the inside of a housing of the electronic component assembly and enclosing and thereby shielding the semiconductor device from electromagnetic frequencies, wherein the conforming shield enclosure is prepared by paint metalization.

    Abstract: A mixing system employing a rotary blade mixing assembly designed to mix liquid-like, resinous powders with a particulate tinting agent or other additive to produce a uniform, homogeneous powder is disclosed. The mixing system includes a mixing container that may be inverted up to 180° and includes a rotary blade mixing assembly having at least two sets of mixing blades connected to a central shaft and arranged in parallel planes, each set having at least two mixing blades which are connected to the central shaft. Each blade is pitched at an angle to about 20° to about 45° from horizontal as measured following a 180° inversion of the mixing container. Use of the method of the invention is advantageous when uniform color of the final coating powder is desired.

    Abstract: The present invention is directed to a coating composition comprising a pigment, a water-dispersible urethane resin, and a solvent effective amount of a water-soluble solvent. The water-dispersible urethane resin exists as a colloidal dispersion in water but when mixed with a water-soluble solvent swells to provide a dispersion having a viscosity sufficiently high in the solvent so as to maintain the pigment in suspension in the solvent for a time sufficient to apply the coating composition. The present invention is also directed to a method for coating a substrate with the novel coating composition and to a coated substrate prepared by the novel method.
