Patent number: 7693131Abstract: A communication system provides PSTN access to a user device coupled to a packet network over a packet connection. The user device exchanges telephony signaling and telephony communications in an analog format with an analog telephone, exchanges the telephony signaling and the telephony communications in the packet format over the packet connection, and exchanges Internet communications over the packet connection. A service node exchanges the telephony signaling in the packet format with the user device, processes the telephony signaling to select a PSTN connection, transfers a control message indicating the PSTN connection, and exchanges the telephony signaling in a PSTN format with the PSTN. An interworking unit receives the control message, and in response, exchanges the telephony communications in the packet format with the user device and exchanges the telephony communications in the PSTN format with the selected PSTN connection.Type: GrantFiled: July 20, 2004Date of Patent: April 6, 2010Assignee: Sprint Communications Company L.P.Inventors: Martin Joseph Kaplan, Frank Anthony DeNap, John Arndt Strand, III, William Lee Edwards, Bryan Lee Gorman, Murat Bog, Michael Thomas Swink, Harold Wayne Johnson

Patent number: 7693960Abstract: A data storage system comprises a first storage system, a second storage system, and a third storage system. The first storage system receives individual data files from a customer system, and on an individual file-by-file basis substantially in real time from receiving each of the individual data files, determines individual file types for the individual data files and transfers the individual data files based on the individual file types over a bonded time division multiplex connection. The second storage system receives and stores the individual data files on the individual file-by-file basis, and subsequently forms blocks of data including the individual data files, and transfers the blocks of data over an internet protocol connection. The third storage system receives and stores the blocks of data.Type: GrantFiled: October 22, 2003Date of Patent: April 6, 2010Assignee: Sprint Communications Company L.P.Inventor: Audrey D. Harman

Patent number: 7693974Abstract: A system and method for providing a graphical user interface (GUI) for network development, management, and monitoring includes a GUI front end that provides a graphical representation of a telecommunication network comprised of communication devices represented by GUI network elements. A network proxy provides a communication layer between the GUI and a network server and allows the GUI to connect to multiple instances of a network server without having to hard code the connections to the network servers. The network proxy transmits commands and messages between the network server and the GUI. The network server determines how to handle traffic in the network model, such as how to provide call setup, call routine, and call tear down. The network server transmits call routing commands and messages to the network proxy which dispatches them to the GUI. An external systems interface provides the mechanism for which the network server communicates with communication devices in an external system.Type: GrantFiled: February 6, 2004Date of Patent: April 6, 2010Assignee: Sprint Communications Company L.P.Inventors: Ye Huang, William Lawton Crowe, Royal Dean Howell

Patent number: 7694034Abstract: A system and method for transferring data flows, such as streaming video or audio signals, between end devices that are members of the same end device group is provided. A network examining module identifies end devices having an active data flow. A data session populating module populates a data store for an end device group identifying end devices having active data flows. A managing module determines which end devices are compatible for a data flow to be transferred. The data flow transferring module transfers the active data flow from one group member end device to another group member end device.Type: GrantFiled: January 8, 2007Date of Patent: April 6, 2010Assignee: Sprint Communications Company L.P.Inventors: Jeremy Breau, Manish Mangal

Patent number: 7693087Abstract: A method, system, and medium are provided for selecting one or more hub aggregation points from a number of candidates on a network. The method begins by obtaining selection criteria for each of the candidates. Using the obtained criteria a score for each candidate is determined. This determination involves assigning intermediate scores for each criteria and applying a weighted multiplier to the intermediate score. The total of the intermediate scores is the overall score for any candidate. The method continues by selecting potential hub aggregation points for further consideration based upon the determined score of each candidate. The method then calculates a least cost route for each point on the network under consideration to each of the selected hub aggregation points. Different combinations of selected hub aggregation points can then be used to iterate through the least cost routing analysis to arrive at a final selection of hub aggregation points.Type: GrantFiled: February 14, 2007Date of Patent: April 6, 2010Assignee: Sprint Communications Company L.P.Inventors: Marianne Carr, Sarah E. Patent number: 7689209Abstract: A wireless communication network comprises antenna systems, a mobile switching system, and a monitoring system. The antenna systems exchange user communications with mobile user devices in a wireless communication format. The mobile switching system has software to control operations. The mobile switching system routes the user communications between the antenna systems and network communication systems. The monitoring system determines that a software lock should be implemented for the mobile switching system, and in response, transfers a software lock instruction to the mobile switching system.
