Abstract: A method for allocating identifiers in a cellular wireless network. The method may determine the optimal distribution of identifiers, such as pseudo-random offset numbers, to the sectors and cells of a Code Division Multiple Access cellular wireless system. The method may ensure that those identifiers that are used more than once by the system are allocated to sectors that are as far apart as possible. The method allocates identifiers preferentially to sectors in more tightly packed regions of the network. Then the method determines how widely spread the identifiers are. Sectors with identifiers that are near each other are then preferentially reallocated their identifiers. The method repeats determining the spread of identifiers and reallocating the identifiers until the sectors retain the same identifiers, thereby reflecting a stable allocation of identifiers in the cellular wireless system.
Abstract: A method and system for management of messages. Upon receipt of a message, or at another time, the machine may automatically extract a parameter value from the message and create a new folder for storing messages that match that parameter value. The machine may thus store the message, and other messages that match the parameter value, in the folder. Alternatively, the machine may present the message to a user and allow a user to select one or more values from the message, to be used as a filter for a folder. The machine may then store the message, and other messages that match the filter, in the folder.
Abstract: An interface engine that is communicatively connected to a packet-switched network and to a legacy circuit-switched network uses a call processing protocol, such as the session initiation protocol (SIP), for packet-switched network communications and uses a legacy signaling protocol, such as IS-41, for legacy circuit-switched communications. In response to a registration request initiated by a subscriber device on the packet-switched network, the interface engine obtains a service profile for the subscriber from a call processing system, such as a home location register (HLR), of the legacy circuit-switched network. Service parameters derived from the service profile and stored in a service database may be used to apply services on the packet-switched network for the subscriber device.

Abstract: A CDMA PCS telecommunications cell (40) of increased capacity includes a plurality of sectors (42, 44, 46) controlled by a base station (14) using a defined set of CDMA codes for each sector. Cell capacity is increased by using two antennas for each sector corresponding to two subsectors with each using a subset of the CDMA codes defined for the sector and with each subset including a pilot channel.
Abstract: A system and method for prepaid supported communications in a telecommunications network are described. One exemplary method includes establishing a data communication session between a first client device and a network server arranged to provide prepaid services to the first client device, detecting a prepaid call request to connect a call between the first client device to a second client device, and sending a prepaid status request message from the first client device to the network server via the control communication session. The method further includes receiving a prepaid status response at the first client device from the network server, determining if the first client device is authorized to make the prepaid call, and, if so, establishing a voice communication session from the first client device to the second cilent device.
Abstract: A system and method for providing wireless communication services to passengers of an aircraft through the use of a standard mobile telephone. A system of antennas on an air base station radiates above a horizontal plane in order to provide coverage for an aircraft flying through a service airspace. The air system may be conveniently overlaid on an existing terrestrial wireless system in order to share based station facilities. A stretched dome shaped antenna pattern provides 360 degrees of coverage in the horizontal plane. A cardioid direction antenna pattern in the horizontal plane provides coverage in a specific portion of the air space such as an air corridor. Various combinations of antennas, and transceivers are interconnected in order to provide the proper coverage, capacity and interference control requirements for a particular air cell.
Abstract: A method and system for assisting a user to engage in a microbrowser-based interactive chat session. The microbrowser displays a conversation choice card comprising (i) a history-of-communications and (ii) a number of choice-items related to the chat session. The use of a conversation choice-card conveniently reduces the number of keystrokes that a user might otherwise need to carry out various functions related to the chat session. It also may cut the number of keystrokes required to perform interactive chat functions.
Abstract: An automatic messaging system for a telecommunications network is disclosed. A call processing entity such as a switch or central control point recognizes a call-processing event and responsively generates and sends an informational message to a specified destination. The informational message may be a text description of the event, such as an indication that “calling party just placed a call to called party” or may take other forms, such as a video message, an audio message or a fax message.
Abstract: A method and system for allocating air interface resources in a wireless telecommunications network. A control entity determines the current or projected location of a mobile station. Using the location, the control entity identifies the physical sectors and respective carrier frequencies available to serve the mobile station. The control entity then selects an optimal physical sector and respective carrier frequency and instructs the mobile station to operate in the selected physical sector using the selected carrier frequency.
Abstract: An interface between a public switched telephone network (PSTN), a wireless communication network having a plurality of cells and a plurality of mobile switching centers (MSCs), and a wireless device. The interface includes a broadband telecommunications network. It also includes an integrated services hub (ISH). The ISH is communicatively coupled to the wireless device and the broadband network. The ISH receives RF communications from the wireless device and converts the RF communications into control and data signals usable by said broadband network. The ISH has an antenna with a first coverage area extending over a pico cell. The interface also comprises a service manager communicatively coupled to the broadband network, to the wireless network, and to the PSTN. The service manager receives the control and data signals from the ISH via the broadband network and forms and provides signaling communications in response to receiving the control and data signals.

Abstract: A system and method are provided for using differentiated telephone numbers to determine whether to perform a vocoder bypass. In an exemplary embodiment, a mobile station may call a terminating node. An intermediate entity may search an identifier of the terminating node for a predetermined aspect. If the predetermined aspect is found, the terminating node may be a mobile station, and the intermediate entity may perform a vocoder bypass. If the predetermined aspect is not found, the terminating node may be a non-mobile station, and the intermediate entity may perform vocoding.

Abstract: An interface assembly (18) for integrating operation of a private telecommunications system (12) such as a PBX with a wireless intelligent network (14) such as the PCS network operated by Sprint PCS. The interface assembly includes an interface (54) for coupling with the private telecommunications system, an interface (56) for coupling with a component of the wireless intelligent network, and a controller (58) for processing and transferring call routing queries and instructions therebetween. The private telecommunications system interface is operable to receive call routing queries from the private telecommunications system and to deliver call routing instructions to the private telecommunications system. The wireless network interface is operable to deliver call routing queries to the wireless network and to receive call routing instructions from the wireless network.
Abstract: A wireless telecommunications network (10) that is operable to collect and report data relating to the status and use of a wireless phone (34) or other telecommunications device in near real-time in response to data collection requests made by subscribers or other authorized persons.

Abstract: A method and system for controlled provisioning of a desired set of service logic for a subscriber of group of subscribers. In response to a designated stimulus, such as a time-event, a location-event or a threshold-event, a network entity modifies the subscriber profile maintained by a serving system, so as to include in the profile one or more desired parameters. One such modification may be the inclusion in the profile of a trigger that directs the serving system to query a designated network entity for call handling instructions. The designated network entity may then provide a special set of services for the subscriber or group. Further, a mechanism is provided to help ensure that once such a service overlay is imposed, it remains imposed if desired.
