Patent number: 8107988Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for conducting power control based on reverse-link RF conditions. In an embodiment, a base station periodically calculates a reverse noise rise (RNR), periodically calculates a collective reverse-link frame error rate (RFER), and periodically checks whether a new call-origination message has been received. If a call origination has not been received, the base station checks whether the RNR is less than a threshold. If the RNR is less than the threshold, the base station sends power-up commands to each of mobile stations. If the RNR is not less than the threshold, the base station sends power-down commands to each of the mobile stations so long as the collective RFER is less than a maximum RFER. If a call origination has been received, the base station sends power-down commands to each of the mobile stations until the collective RFER reaches the maximum RFER.Type: GrantFiled: July 25, 2008Date of Patent: January 31, 2012Assignee: Sprint Spectrum L.P.Inventors: Manoj Shetty, Sachin R. Patent number: 8107947Abstract: The present invention provides systems and methods for controlling the volume of a remote communication terminal (RCT) based on the amount of force asserted on the session button of an originating communication terminal (OCT). The OCT may include a force-sensor that detects the force exerted on the session button and provides an output corresponding with the detected level of force. While the force is being exerted on the session button, the OCT receives voice from the user and transmits a representation of the voice via the communication interface for receipt by the RCT and for playout of the voice by the RCT. The OCT includes with the transmitted representation of the voice a playout-volume directive that corresponds with the output from the force-sensor, and causes the RCT to play out the voice at a volume level corresponding with the detected level of force.Type: GrantFiled: June 24, 2009Date of Patent: January 31, 2012Assignee: Sprint Spectrum L.P.Inventor: Geoffrey Martin

Patent number: 8064951Abstract: A method and system for selectively applying a cellular-PBX integration service. When a radio access network (RAN) receives a call request seeking to set up a call for a cellular wireless communication device (WCD) that is operating in the coverage area of the RAN, a determination is made as to whether the WCD is currently checked-into a cellular-PBX integration service. A service control point (SCP), for instance, may make the determination. If the determination is that the WCD is currently checked-in, then the call is set up to an IP PBX server that services the WCD, and the IP PBX server may then handle the call as it would handle a call placed to any IP PBX extension. Further, differential billing can be applied, charging an enterprise billing-account for the call if the WCD is checked-in, and charging a WCD billing-account for the call if the WCD is not checked-in.Type: GrantFiled: May 24, 2005Date of Patent: November 22, 2011Assignee: Sprint Spectrum L.P.Inventors: Charles E. Patent number: 8064892Abstract: A method and system for conferencing a landline telephone into a cellular telephone call is disclosed. In response to a landline telephone going off-hook, a cellular telephone corresponding to the landline telephone is identified. When a determination is made that the corresponding cellular telephone is currently engaged in a call, the landline telephone is conferenced into the cellular call. If the cellular telephone is subsequently disengaged from the call, the original cellular call has been effectively transferred to the landline telephone. The inventive method and system may be linked to a cellular-landline conference call service. For example, a user may subscribe to such a service so that the user may automatically transfer a call from the user's cellular telephone to the user's home or office landline telephone when that landline telephone is taken off-hook.Type: GrantFiled: May 18, 2007Date of Patent: November 22, 2011Assignee: Sprint Spectrum L.P.Inventors: Tong Zhou, Jiongkuan Hou
