Abstract: Disclosed herein is a technology for automatically triggering delivery of a digital receipt for a financial transaction based on a previously stored electronic address for receiving digital receipts. In at least some embodiments, the technology includes a digital receipt system working in coordination with one or more merchants' POS device to deliver receipts for current transactions based on a previously stored electronic address from past transactions. The first time a user utilizes a payment instrument in a transaction, the system associates and stores the payment-instrument information with an identifier of the user. The next time a transaction is detected that involves the identifier, the system automatically triggers receipt delivery to an electronic address associated with the identifier.

Abstract: A system for sensing a proximity of a near field communication (NFC) device includes an NFC reader that communicates with a remote NFC device through load modulation. The NFC reader transmits a wireless carrier signal from an antenna, and the remote NFC device modulates such carrier signal by changing its internal impedance in order to transmit data to the NFC reader. The NFC reader has at least one antenna for receiving the modulated signal. This antenna is coupled to circuitry that measures a spectrum of the received signal and identifies a resonant frequency of the NFC device based on the measured spectrum. Such circuitry also determines the signal's amplitude at such resonant frequency and precisely estimates the distance of the remote NFC device from the reader based on such amplitude.

Abstract: In a restaurant having a customer-facing food service counter, a video camera is positioned to produce video of an area that includes the food service counter. The video is analyzed to determine the ingredients that are used to prepare each of multiple customer meals. This information may be used to recommend a modified ingredient layout of the food service counter, where the modified ingredient layout is formulated so as to improve serving efficiency or customer convenience.

Abstract: Techniques described herein are directed to intelligent virtualization of merchant services. In an example, interaction data indicative of interaction(s) between merchant(s) and a service provider can be received from merchant device(s) operable by the merchant(s). Server(s) of the service provider can access inventory data of a merchant and can determine, based at least in part on the interaction data and the inventory data, whether the merchant is a candidate for virtualization. The server(s) can send, to a merchant device operable by the merchant, a recommendation to virtualize an item based at least in part on the determining, wherein the recommendation can be presented via a merchant-facing user interface that includes a user interface element to allow the merchant to virtualize the item.

Abstract: In some examples, methods and systems may process one or more payment transactions between a merchant and a customer by registering, by a biometric sensor of a payment object reader or a mobile device, a biometric characteristic as a biometric payment instrument, for example by obtaining data corresponding to a biometric characteristic of the customer. The data is converted into a digital signature of the biometric characteristic and compared with a registered biometric instrument at the time of transaction. If a match is obtained, the customer effects payments through the registered biometric instrument.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a method includes identifying, by a payment service, a plurality of security assets for inclusion in a pack of security assets. A value of the pack of security assets may be determined based on weighted values of a base unit of each of the security assets. Information may be sent to a first user's client device to display a user interface to purchase the pack of security assets. In response to receiving a purchase request in a specified amount, the payment service may calculate, for each of the security assets in the pack, the base units of the security asset based on the respective assigned weight and the value of a base unit of the security asset. Finally, for each of the security assets in the pack, ownership of the calculated number of base units of the security asset may be assigned to the first user.

Abstract: Techniques for facilitating a secure transaction between a first mobile computing device associated with a driver and a second mobile computing device associated with a passenger are discussed herein. The techniques may include registering an association between a first application executing on the first mobile computing device and a second application executing on the second mobile computing device. The second application may display information indicating an amount of fare for a ride offered by the driver to the passenger. Upon receiving input from the passenger to authorize processing of a payment transaction, the second application may send a request to process the payment transaction using card information. In some examples, the payment transaction is authorized without providing the first application with access to card information.

Abstract: A payment reader and a POS terminal may communicate over a wireless connection. The methods and systems include monitoring one or more parameters corresponding to a payment reader and another device in proximity to POS terminal. The POS terminal, through a set of customized instructions, determines whether behavior of the second device substantially corresponds to the first device, in order to detect suspected hardware or software intrusion associated with the secure device. On successful detection of a suspected intrusion, the POS terminal generates an alert for a user of the first device if illegal intrusion is suspected by the processor.

Abstract: A point of sale (POS) device includes an output device such as a speaker, a display screen, or a network interface. The POS device also includes a secure enclosure housing a secure processor and tamper detection circuitry for detecting attempts to tamper with the secure enclosure. Use of the output device is shared between the secure processor and a main processor via a switch that is controlled by the secure processor. The secure processor can switch control of the output device from the main processor to itself and can output an output dataset via the output device in a number of scenarios. These scenarios include the secure processor detecting an attempt to tamper with the secure enclosure, the secure processor recognizing that the main processor is behaving suspiciously, or the secure processor wanting to output sensitive information. The output dataset may include visual data, audio data, or network data.

Abstract: The disclosure describes, in part, techniques for performing pre-authorization during a transaction between a merchant a customer. For instance, a payment service may receive, from a merchant device, payment information of a payment instrument that is used to satisfy a cost of a first item. The payment service may then send an authorization request to a card payment network to hold a first amount of funds based on previous purchase activity. The payment service may further send the merchant device information associated with the customer. Next, the payment service may receive an indication that the customer requests to purchase a second item. In response, the payment service may send a request to the card payment network to capture a second amount of funds that is based on the cost of the first item and a cost of the second item. In response, the payment service may receive approval from the card payment network.

Abstract: Identity verification (IDV) using a payment processing platform is described herein. In an example, a computing device can receive identifying information of a user. The computing device can request payment information of a payment instrument of the user and can receive the payment information of the payment instrument of the user. The computing device can prompt the user to present the payment instrument at a point-of-sale (POS) of a trusted merchant and can verify the identity of the user based at least in part on verification information received from a merchant device operable by the trusted merchant at the POS.

Abstract: A user interface (UI) for presenting capital offers associated with different loan products is described. A service provider can analyze potential borrower data to generate custom capital offers for the potential borrower. A first set of the custom capital offers can be associated with a first loan product and a second set of the custom capital offers associated with a second loan product having different repayment terms than the first loan product. The service provider can receive an indication of interest associated with a capital loan product and, responsive to receiving the indication of interest, can cause a UI to be presented via a display of a device operated by the potential borrower. The UI can include a slider that allows the potential borrower to transition between offers associated with the first loan product and the second loan product to select a custom capital offer of the custom capital offers.
