Patent number: 10625044Abstract: A catheter assembly includes an inner liner made of flexible material and an outer layer having a steering mechanism. A catheter assembly is provided that includes an inner liner made of flexible material, and an outer layer having a steering mechanism that includes at least one wire and a corresponding lumen for each of the at least one wire through which the respective wire may travel. The outer layer includes a braided wire assembly that includes at least two wires braided into a wire mesh, and further includes a see-through portion positioned proximate a pull wire extraction location to facilitate extraction.Type: GrantFiled: February 17, 2017Date of Patent: April 21, 2020Assignee: St. Jude Medical, Atrial Fibrilation Division, Inc.Inventors: Jennifer Marie Heisel, Gregory James Dakin, Somally Mom

Patent number: 10610127Abstract: An electrophysiological laboratory system comprises a subsystem configured to perform diagnostic and/or therapeutic functions, a medical device, and an interface module disposed therebetween. The medical device comprises a shaft having proximal and distal portions, high- and low-impedance electrical pathways disposed within the shaft, and an electrode disposed at the distal portion of the shaft and electrically coupled to one or both of the high- and low-impedance electrical pathways. The electrode is configured to perform diagnostic and/or therapy delivery functions. The interface module comprises a high-impedance channel configured to couple the high-impedance pathway of the medical device to the subsystem, and to attenuate magnetic resonance RF and gradient field pulses generated by the MRI system. The interface module further comprises a low-impedance channel configured to couple the low-impedance pathway of the medical device to the subsystem.Type: GrantFiled: March 15, 2013Date of Patent: April 7, 2020Assignee: St. Jude Medical, Atrial Fibrilation Division, Inc.Inventors: D. Patent number: 10265505Abstract: A catheter with a mechanism for omni-directional deflection of a catheter shaft includes a shaft assembly and a controller. The shaft assembly includes a first tubular component that has a preformed curvilinear distal section, a second, substantially straight tubular component with a main axis and an outer shaft. The first and second components are configured for slidable movement therebetween while preserving common rotation so that when the second component is axially moved in a distal direction, the second component deflects the preformed curvilinear section towards the main axis while orientation of the outer shaft is preserved. The controller is configured to effect relative axial movement between the first and second components as well as to effect rotation of the first and second components (and thus also of the preformed curvilinear distal section) without any rotation of the shaft relative to the handle.Type: GrantFiled: December 13, 2016Date of Patent: April 23, 2019Assignee: St. Jude Medical, Atrial Fibrilation Division, Inc.Inventor: Troy T. Patent number: 9204928Abstract: Coupler assemblies and methods are disclosed as the coupler assemblies may be used with a catheter. An exemplary coupler assembly includes a spherical linkage coupler for a catheter. The coupler comprises a first cylinder portion for connecting to a structure, and a second cylinder portion for connecting to a distal end of a body of the catheter. The coupler also comprises a spherical linkage including at least two link arms. Each of the two link arms are connected on one end to the first cylinder portion and on the other end to the second cylinder portion. The two link arms connect a portion of the structure to the distal end of the catheter and enable the structure to move relative to the distal end of the catheter in response to an external force exerted on the structure.Type: GrantFiled: August 7, 2013Date of Patent: December 8, 2015Assignee: St. Jude Medical, Atrial Fibrilation Division, Inc.Inventors: Arthur G. Erdman, Saurav Paul, Troy T. Tegg

Patent number: 7819868Abstract: An ablation catheter has improved fluid distribution structures. An ablation section at a distal end of the catheter is designed to provide a more uniform fluid flow emanating from the catheter. By creating a uniform fluid flow, a more uniform tissue lesion results and the possibility of charring the tissue is reduced. A combination of mesh material layers, porous materials, and dispersion channels or openings are used to achieve the uniform flow. The amount of fluid used as a virtual electrode to ablate the tissue is greatly reduced with the present invention. Further, the catheter may be used to create a single, uniform linear lesion by successive application of energy to adjacent portions of the ablation section, thus reducing the power required to create the desired lesion.Type: GrantFiled: June 21, 2005Date of Patent: October 26, 2010Assignee: St. Jude Medical, Atrial Fibrilation Division, Inc.Inventors: Hong Cao, Chou Thao, Kedar R.
