Abstract: In Radio Link control (REC) apparatus, a mechanism is provided for detecting missing or corrupted data units at the receiving end of a transmission link, requesting retransmission and then monitoring the response to the retransmission request. Distinctively, a receiving communications entity 300 is equipped to act on a nil response. If no data unit is retransmitted, the receiving entity triggers at least one repeat retransmission request. This is the case even if no further data unit is received after the retransmission request is triggered. Retransmission requests are repeated up to a preset number, whereafter a different recovery mechanism is triggered.

Abstract: A method and device for processing a message in a UE (user equipment) mobile telecommunications device. The UE device receives a CUC (Cell Confirmation Confirm) message and, in response, determines whether the UE device has an empty cell identifier variable. If so, The UE device then determines whether the CUC message includes a cell identifier and, if not, and if the CUC message would cause the UE device to enter a state that requires the UE device to respond to the message before entering the a next state, carrying out at least one further step such as setting INVALID_CONFIGURATION to TRUE in the UE device prior to entering the state.

According to one aspect of the present application, there is provided a user equipment to send uplink data to a UTRAN during a CELL UPDATE. The apparatus has an uplink data saving RRC with an uplink data store to save the uplink data while the CELL UPDATE procedure is ongoing, and a state machine having a Cell FACH state and/or a Cell DCH state. The uplink data saving RRC sends the saved uplink data to the UTRAN via an UPLINK DIRECT TRANSFER when the CELL UPDATE procedure has completed and the state machine enters either Cell FACH or Cell DCH state. According to another aspect of the present application, there is provided a method of sending uplink data to a UTRAN during a CELL UPDATE procedure.
Abstract: A multi-mode mobile communication device may include a processing device, a memory sub-system, a communication sub-system operable to communicate with the plurality of wireless access networks, and a protocol stack stored in the memory sub-system and executed by the processing device. The protocol stack may include a first access stratum, a second access stratum, a non-access stratum and an access stratum manager. The first access stratum may communicate with a first wireless access network via the communication sub-system. The second access stratum may communicate with a second wireless access network via the communication sub-system. The non-access stratum may communicate with a core network. Abstract: Apparatus and a method for deriving a power measurement summation for use in universal mobile telecommunications system user equipment are disclosed. Conversion from a logarithm scale to a linear scale for summation and back again is avoided. The technique obviates the need for a mathematical processor to convert power measurements in a logarithmic scale (e.g. decibels dB, or dBw) into a linear scale (e.g. mW) to sum the power measurements or a ratio. The summed power component is calculated using data stored in the device (e.g. look up tables) without any need for conversion of the scale used.
