  • Patent number: 6063008
Abstract: A manually powered elliptical motion exercise apparatus includes a floor-supported frame, a crank mechanism defining a first axis, and radially-extending crank arms. A pair of elongated pedals include foot-receiving platforms for supporting a user standing thereon and are coupled to the crank mechanism by crank coupling structures such that each crank coupling structure traverses a generally circular path about the first axis as the pedals are manually operated by a standing user. A pedal guide defines a second axis that is fixed with respect to the frame, and each pedal is constructed and arranged to be supported on the guide for pivoting movement with respect to the second axis and to accommodate a horizontal extent of movement imparted to the foot-receiving platforms by movement of the elongated pedals around the first axis so that the foot-receiving platforms traverse an elliptical path of motion simulating natural striding foot movements.

  • Patent number: 5916065
Abstract: An exercise apparatus includes a frame, a seat for a user, and a feet engageable moving mechanism carried by the frame and including a pair of feet engaging members. The feet engaging members present different foot receiving surfaces to be engaged by the feet of a user for providing different leg movements depending on the position of the user and the user's legs. First foot receiving surfaces support a user in a standing position and move the user's feet in a generally elliptical path of motion simulating a natural foot striding. Second foot receiving surfaces are spaced further away from the seat than the first foot receiving surfaces and have vertical components enabling a seated user to extend his legs forwardly and exert, with the bottom of his feet, forces having substantial horizontal components to the feet engaging members to drive the feet engageable moving mechanism against its internal resistance.

  • Patent number: 5785635
Abstract: An exercise machine has a first bar releasably coupled with a first cam pivotally mounted generally above and behind a seat mounted on the frame of the exercise machine. A second bar is connected to an arm assembly which is releasably coupled to a second cam pivotally mounted generally below the seat. Each cam has a means for resisting rotation of the cam mounted between it and the frame. Movement of either the first bar or second bar rotates its associated cam against the resistance of its associated resistance means. The starting position of each bar is adjustable and may be selected by coupling the bar with its associated cam in one of a plurality of fixed resting positions. Each cam may rotate in either direction about its pivot position. Accordingly, each bar may be moved from its selected starting rest position in either direction to impart rotation of its associated cam against selected resistance.

  • Patent number: 5740762
Abstract: A multi-compartment bird shelter that may be assembled with a minimum of mechanical fasteners and which may be assembled as a multi-tiered structure is disclosed. The shelter is supported, by a support flange, on a vertical pole and includes a plurality of individual compartment modules that are pie shaped with vertical divergingly spaced walls and a bottom surface. A spacer element place coaxially over the pole is larger than the pole so as to define a gap between the pole and the spacer element. The spacer element rests upon the support flange, and individual compartment modules are coupled to the pole by inserting a hook structure of the module into the gap defined between the pole and the spacer element. A plurality of like sized and shaped modules are arranged around the pole in side-by-side fashion and are similarly coupled to the pole so as to define a tier of compartments. Subsequent tiers of compartments may be similarly assembled atop existing tiers.
