Abstract: Methods for marking a consumer good at a distribution point are described that enable field authentication of the consumer good at an authentication point without connection to a remote database. Methods for authenticating a marked consumer good are described by scanning encrypted indicia without connecting to a remote database are described. Authentication methods for marked consumer goods, apparatus for carrying out the authentication methods, and systems based on the authentication methods are described.

Abstract: A data carrier provides health related information regarding a patient, and facilitates compliance with HIPAA by the obscuring the association between the name of the patient and the health related information when the data carrier is to be discarded. The data carrier includes a release liner, a health information label having an upper surface and a lower surface, the label including a first area on the upper surface for indicia specifying health related information and a second area on the upper surface for indicia specifying the identity of a patient, and a pressure sensitive adhesive coating on the lower surface of the health information label, securing the health information label to the release liner. A masking label is either integral with the health information label, or the liner.

Abstract: An in-mold labeling system includes a molding apparatus having a first mold half and a second mold half that opposes the first mold half, the mold halves defining at least one mold cavity contained within a cavity wall. The in-mold labeling system further comprises a polymeric label receptor fixed to at least a portion of the cavity wall of the at least one mold cavity. The polymeric label receptor has a tacky contact face facing the inside of the at least one mold cavity when the molding apparatus is in the closed position. During a molding process, the tacky contact face of the polymeric label receptor receives a mold-side face of a label. The label is held in position against the tacky contact face during the molding process by surface tension between the mold-side face of the label and the tacky contact face of the polymeric label receptor.

Abstract: A document uses a chemically reactive security ink to facilitate security, making it more difficult to alter a genuine security document. The chemically reactive security ink masks a warning word or message on a security document. The hidden warning word or message is revealed when the document is subjected to chemical washing.

Abstract: A mailer intermediate, foldable into postcard size, includes a generally rectangular sheet of card stock having first and second side edges, first and second end edges, and first and second faces. A fold line extends substantially transverse to the side edges and substantially bisecting them, and dividing the sheet into first and second portions. An adhesive pattern on the first face of the sheet, adjacent at least one of the first and second end edges, secures the first and second portions together adjacent the first and second end edges. An obscuring coating and a camouflage image are provided on the first face of the sheet. Variable indicia are printed on the obscuring coating, and are not legible when viewed by an observer who separates the first and second portions while the first and second portions remain secured together adjacent the first and second end edges. The obscuring coating may comprise a multi-layer, thermochromic coating.

Abstract: A business form includes a paper carrier sheet having an upper surface and a lower surface, a barrier layer on an area of the upper surface of the paper carrier sheet, a silicone coating extending over the barrier layer, and a label assembly. The label assembly includes a label ply and a pressure sensitive adhesive coating. The label assembly is secured to the silicone coating and to the upper surface of the carrier sheet by the pressure sensitive adhesive. The label ply has a die cut through it that defines a label portion and a lip portion. The label portion is secured only to the silicone coating, and the lip portion is secured to both the silicone coating and to the upper surface of the carrier sheet. When the business form is printed with a printer, such as a laser printer, the form moves through the printer in an orientation in which the lip portion leads the label assembly. This results in the label portion being less likely to be removed from the carrier sheet inadvertently.

Abstract: A form having a wristband and, optionally, detachable labels, includes a printable face ply and a liner ply. The printable face ply has an upper surface and a lower surface, and a pressure sensitive adhesive on at least a portion of the lower surface. The face ply may include first and second adjacent portions, with the first portion of the face ply die cut to form a detachable wristband having first and second ends and an upper and a lower surface, with pressure sensitive adhesive on the lower surface of the detachable wristband adjacent the first and second ends, and with the second portion of the face ply die cut to form the series of detachable labels. The first portion of the face ply is also die cut to form an extender band having first and second ends and an upper and a lower surface, with pressure sensitive adhesive on the lower surface of the extender band adjacent the first and second ends.

Abstract: A document audit system includes a digital controller, a document data entry device, and a document report generator. The document data entry device is in communication with the digital controller. The document report generator is in communication with the digital controller. The digital controller is programmed to cause characteristic document data indicative of the characteristics of each of a plurality of selected documents to be received, compare the characteristic document data for each document to migration data metrics which specify the characteristic document data of documents that can appropriately be assigned to one of a plurality of migration categories, save the identities of the documents having characteristic document data that meet document data specified by the migration data metrics for the one of the plurality of migration categories, and enable the document report generator to generate a migration report.

The invisible IR or UV image, or both, provide security information. The visible image provides the graphic image. The label is permanently fused by an in-mold molding process to an article made of plastic, rubber or the combination thereof to render it tamper proof.

Abstract: A security and/or tracking information and graphic image fusion system to be used with verification equipment to provide a tamper proof labeled article having security and/or tracking information thereon. The label comprises a printable sheet having at least one RFID device thereon, and an outer layer thereon. The RFID device provides security and/or tracking information for the labeled article. The label may further include at least one visible image printed thereon. To provide additional layers of security, at least one invisible IR or UV image, or both, may also be printed on the printable sheet to provide security and/or tracking information. The visible image provides the graphic image. The label is permanently fused by an in-mold molding process to an article made of plastic, rubber or the combination thereof to render it tamper proof.

The transparent ply is removably mounted on the upper surface of the release ply by the pressure sensitive adhesive coating. A die cut in the transparent ply defines an elongated wristband. An opaque coating is provided on the upper surface of the transparent ply in a central portion of the elongated wristband. A die cut in the transparent ply defines an overlaminate label that is sized to cover at least a part of the central portion of the elongated wristband, thereby covering indicia printed on the opaque coating. A paper ply may also be mounted on the release ply by pressure sensitive adhesive. The paper ply defines a plurality of labels that may be printed at the same time as the wristband.

Abstract: A mailer intermediate includes a generally rectangular sheet of printable, postcard stock having first and second side edges, first and second end edges, and first and second faces. A fold line extends substantially transverse to the side edges and substantially bisects them, whereby the sheet is divided by the fold line into first and second postcard portions. An adhesive pattern is provided on the first face of the sheet, adjacent at least one of the first and second end edges, for securing the first and second postcard portions together adjacent the first and second end edges. Adhesive patterns on the first face of the sheet adjacent the first and second side edges are provided only near the fold line, whereby the first face of the first and second postcard portions are not adhered together along a substantial majority of the extent of the first and second side edges of the first and second postcard portions. The fold line may be defined by a line of weakness, such as for example a perforation line.

Abstract: A form containing both a pair of labels. In one configuration, the labels can be a shipping label and packing slip. The form is configured such that variable indicia can be printed on a first ply of both labels from a simplex (one-sided) printer. In one configuration, the packing slip and shipping label define a pair of labels across the front of the first ply such that the two labels are substantially coplanar with one another. Alignment of a first ply, second ply and adhesive and release layers disposed between the first and second plies, as well as placement of lines of weakness through one or more of the plies and layers facilitates formation of the shipping label and packing list that can, after accepting printed indicia on the first ply from a one-sided printer, be removed from one another such that they can be affixed to a package.

Abstract: A two-way shipping label construction includes a strip of release material, a first printable label, and a second printable label. The first label is adhered to the strip of release material by the first pressure sensitive adhesive coating and includes at least one customer receipt label defined by a die cut having one or more ties. The first label has a first surface with a release coating on a portion thereof, and a second surface with a first pressure sensitive adhesive coating. The second label has a first surface and a second surface with a second pressure sensitive adhesive coating. The second printable label adheres to the strip of release material by the second pressure sensitive adhesive coating adjacent the first printable label. The second printable label includes at least one manifest label defined by a die cut having one or more ties.

Abstract: A business form according to the present invention including a ply of label stock, a ply of release liner stock, and a ply of message or record bearing stock, may be configured as either a continuous or cut sheet form. The ply of label stock has one side coated with a pressure sensitive adhesive. The ply of release liner stock has a release side that engages with the adhesive on the one side of the label stock. The release liner ply and the label stock ply have edges that are laterally offset from one another so that a narrow longitudinal strip of adhesive is unengaged with the release liner. The ply of message bearing stock is adhered at one edge to the label stock at the narrow longitudinal strip of adhesive. A plurality of cuts is defined by, and extends through, the release liner from the back of the business form, whereby the structural integrity of the business form is enhanced.

Abstract: A foldable information card that is useful for storing related documents is provided. Specifically, a foldable card that may contain warranty or product information to be given to a consumer is provided. The foldable card has a storage pocket for related documents such as sales receipts. Additionally, the foldable card has a repositionable adhesive that may be used to secure the card in a folded configuration and prevent documents from falling out of the storage pocket. Information may be printed on the foldable card in more than one language.

Abstract: A business form or mailer intermediate, includes a substrate sheet having first and second surfaces, first and second parallel longitudinal edges and first and second opposite ends, and at least a first transverse fold line formed in the substrate perpendicular to the parallel longitudinal edges. The first fold line divides the substrate into two or more panels. An address area on one of the panels, and a window opening defined in another of the panels are in alignment when the substrate sheet is folded so that the address area may be viewed through the window opening. A pattern of adhesive is provided on the substrate, surrounding at least one of the address area and the window opening. Folding the substrate results in a seal around the window opening.
