The mobility assistance device may include a support member that can be coupled to a piece of furniture and a support handle that is movable in a substantially vertical direction relative to the support member. The support handle is movable from an operating position to a stowed position. A locking mechanism may secure the support handle in the raised operating position.

The longitudinal dimension of the support rail may be adjustable independent of the base. The tray moves from a closed position to an open position, or a usable position, to allow the user to place objects thereon, or to use the tray for any other purpose.
