  • Patent number: 5857723
Abstract: A spark plug wire puller is described which is actuated by a user squeezing a trigger biased against a handle of the tool which causes two jaw members to come together at gripping ends thereof to squeeze a wire or boot. As the user squeezes the trigger and pulls on the tool, the jaws grip the wire or boot and remove it from the spark plug. The invention is advantageous because it does not rely on a scissors action and it grips the boot in such a way so as not to damage it during the removal process.

  • Patent number: 5851151
Abstract: The universal joint is provided for use with power drive tools. A driving member (12) is provided having a bore (16) at one end for receiving a drive member and a cavity (18) at the other end. A driven member (14) is provided having a quadrified ball (20) at one end and a socket receiving member (22) at the other end. The quadrified ball (20) has quadrified sides (40), a spherical head (42) and spherical corners (44). The quadrified side (40) contains sloped portions (46). The cavity (18) contains a base (54), a square cross-sectional area (48), radius corners (56) and a spring groove (66). The quadrified ball (20) is held in place in the cavity (18) by means of a "C" spring (68). The "C" spring (68) fits in spring groove (66). Disposed at the base (54) of the cavity (18) is a plug compression washer (60) made of a compressible polymer. Disposed between plug compression washer (60) and the head (42) of quadrified ball (20) is a plug tension washer (62).

  • Patent number: 5626061
Abstract: The present invention comprises a reversible drive ratchet wrench (10). A formed metallic insert (50) is provided. The reversible drive ratchet wrench (10) has a length, a head (14), including a ratchet mechanism (36) and a handle (16). A formed metallic insert (50) has an opening (28) for insertion of a ratchet mechanism (36). The formed metallic insert (50) also extends along the handle (16) of the wrench (10). A non-metallic covering (13) is molded around the metallic insert (50), encapsulating the head and entire length of the metallic insert (50), except for the interior of the opening (28). The non-metallic covering (13) is injection-molded around the metallic insert (50). The non-metallic covering (13) has a low dielectric value and may comprise glass fibers distributed longitudinally and/or nylon or copolymers. A non-metallic covering (13) may be of uniform thickness or varying thickness. The reversing lever (18) may also be made of the composite material.

  • Patent number: 5535646
Abstract: A ratchet drive mechanism is substantially completely enclosed within the housing of a hand tool. The ratchet drive mechanism includes a drive link having forwardly and rearwardly disposed ends within the tool housing. The drive link is adapted to engage a movement-imparting element of the hand tool and to movably engage at least one pawl. The at least one pawl has two ends and extends continuously therebetween, and an angle substantially centrally along the length thereof to form an elbow at which the at least one pawl is movably connected to one end of the drive link. The ratchet drive mechanism also has a drive gear with a drive shaft extending axially therefrom. The drive gear is mounted within a forward end of the housing of the hand tool with the drive shaft disposed transversely relative to a longitudinal axis of the hand tool and extending beyond the confines of the tool housing for interengagement of an item to be turned.
