  • Patent number: 8766115
Abstract: A controller for operating an electric drive of a reclining chair or couch has a housing mountable on the chair or couch, a pair of control switches on the housing and connectable to the drive motor to operate same, a locking or cutoff switch on the housing, and a supply cable extending from the housing to an electricity source capable of powering and forming with the electric drive. The control switches, and cutoff switch form a circuit interruptible by the cutoff switch so that in the off position of the cutoff switch the control switches are unable to operate the drive and in the on position of the cutoff switch the control switches can operate the drive. A cover shiftable on the cover between a first position setting the cutoff switch in the on position and a second position can set the cutoff switch in the off position.

  • Patent number: 7390060
Abstract: A recliner has a frame having a pair of longitudinally extending and transversely spaced side beams having confronting inner faces and head and foot ends, a middle cushion on the frame between the ends thereof, a head cushion on the frame at the head ends, and a foot cushion on the frame at the foot ends. Respective head and foot hinges couple the middle cushion to the head and foot cushions for relative pivoting about respective transverse axes. A pair of transversely spaced followers on the middle cushion ride on respective longitudinally extending nonstraight guides on the side-beam inner faces. Supports, e.g. rollers, on the foot end of the frame slidably support the foot cushion thereon. Two rigid arms each have one end pivoted on a respective one of the side-beam head ends and an opposite end pivoted on the head cushion.

  • Patent number: 7201438
Abstract: A chair has a frame, a seat on the frame, a back on the frame, and a link between the seat and the back for shifting the seat and back between a sitting position with the back generally vertical and the seat generally horizontal and a relaxed position with the back less vertical and the seat shifted forward on the frame. A pivot defines a horizontal pivot axis carrying the headrest for pivoting between a generally horizontal position extending rearward from the pivot axis and an erect position extending upward from an upper end of the back. A linkage connected between the headrest and the back pivots the headrest about the axis into the erect position on shifting of the back and seat into the relaxed position and pivots the headrest about the axis into the horizontal position on shifting of the back and seat into the sitting position.

  • Patent number: 7097246
Abstract: A piece of furniture has a seat back having a front face and a headrest having a front face and positioned above the seat back with the front faces both facing forward. A guide forces displacement of the headrest relative to the seat back in a continuous and synchronous tipping/sliding movement between a lower position with the headrest relatively closely juxtaposed with the seat back and with the front faces generally parallel and an upper position with the headrest spaced above the seat back and the front faces forming a large acute angle. An upholstery cover is stretched as a single piece over the front faces of the headrest and the seat back.

  • Patent number: 6959966
Abstract: A chair has a frame, a main link having an inner end pivoted on the frame about an inner axis fixed relative to the frame and an outer end defining an outer axis parallel to the inner axis. An outer arm has an inner end pivoted at the outer axis on the outer axis of the main link and an outer end carrying a footrest. An inner wheel is fixed nonrotatably on the frame at the inner axis, and an outer wheel is fixed nonrotatably on the inner end of the outer arm at the outer axis. A chain, belt, or the like connected to both of the wheels couples same together for joint synchronous rotation. A drive can pivot the main link about the inner axis and thereby pivot the outer arm about the outer axis.

  • Patent number: 6338531
Abstract: A stand-assist chair has a base frame adapted to stand on the floor, a seat frame movable above the base frame and carrying a generally horizontal seat, a back on the seat frame extending upward from a rear edge of the seat, and a motor housing on one of the frames. Front and back actuating shafts are journaled in the motor housing under front and rear edges of the seat and have respective front and back actuating arms and respective front and back operating arms. The front arm has an outer end pivoted on the other of the frames adjacent a front edge of the seat and the rear arm has an outer end operatively coupled to the other of the frames adjacent the rear seat edge.

  • Patent number: 6070935
Abstract: A piece of furniture has a generally stationary main part, an actuator in the main part, and a movable part that is pivotal on the main part generally about an axis. An actuating assembly for the movable part has an elongated one-piece operating bar formed of a single piece of tubing having a central portion extending along the axis and a pair of U-shaped end portions each having an inner arm forming a continuation of a respective outer end of the central portion and an outer arm extending across the axis, projecting radially therefrom, and provided with mounting formations. The portions and arms all are generally coplanar. Pivot pins fixed on the main part engage through the outer arms at the axis for pivoting of the operating bar on the main frame about the axis. Respective fittings secured to the mounting formations of the outer arms are connected to the movable part and a crank arm fixed on the central portion and extending radially therefrom is operatively connected to the actuator in the main part.
