Abstract: CSFallback controller allows a long term evolution (LTE) supporting telephone handset to communicate over a network that does not support LTE voice calls, using circuit-switch fallback (CSFallback). The CSFallback controller comprises a visited side signaling output to provide visited side signaling to respond to a mobile terminated call to an mobile handset supporting LTE by locating said handset and an MSC currently serving said handset, using an emulation of HLR signaling for locating the handset and the MSC and a home side signaling output, to provide home side signaling to an HLR associated with the handset. The home side signaling is an emulation of signaling from a serving MSC. The controller transfers the call for handling by the identified currently serving MSC.

Abstract: Apparatus for steering of roaming users to preferred operators at a roaming network uses operator agreements with mobile operators, as well as usage predictions and historical usage patterns, to calculate an optimized steering plan that minimizes the charges to the home operator. The operator agreements are typically step-like in nature and the plan is constructed by iterating through different allocations of the estimated usage between the various mobile operators. The iterations may include various roaming services such as SMS and data as well as mobile originated and mobile terminated calls. The allocation finally selected as the optimal plan is then output to a steering of roaming unit which identifies registration attempts by actual roaming users and steers said registration attempts to fulfill the quotas in the plan.

Abstract: Apparatus for local access to data while roaming with a mobile telephony device at a roaming network. The apparatus is located at the roaming network and comprises a filter having a data packet or packet header inspection unit for inspecting packet information or headers to identify data packets addressed from the roaming telephony device for use via a home network data packet gateway, and a packet diverter for diverting at least some of the identified packets to a local data packet gateway; the filter setting up a diversion tunnel for additional packets of the same session for directly routing all packets of the identified session to the local data packet gateway. Mobile devices are today programmed to send data to their home network for browsing via the home network data packet gateway. The filter allows data to be redirected to the roaming network so that Internet browsing and like data uses can be carried out directly by the roaming user at less cost and greater efficiency and quality of service.

Abstract: A method, system and gateway for control of calls unanswered by a roaming user roaming on a roaming network, comprises monitoring outward bound calls to roaming users, monitoring subsequent inward forwarding of those calls terminated without answering at said roaming users, and matching between the outward bound and inward forwarding. Matching confers control of processing of the terminated call in two ways. One is that it allows call details, typically lost over International networks, to be obtained regarding the terminated call. Secondly, it allows the originating call to be connected directly to the voicemail or other forwarding destination without involving any International connections.

The apparatus comprises a source network front end emulator for emulating front end IP server components of the source network to the destination network; and a destination network front end emulator for emulating front end IP server components of the destination network to the source network. The apparatus, by virtue of the emulators, mediates communications between the source and destination networks.

Abstract: A client for inclusion in a mobile telephony apparatus barred from international roaming usage, to allow roaming operation thereof according to conditions determined at a home network, the client being configured with: an activation unit configured to switch said client between active and passive states, and a call control unit, operative in said active state, to communicate with a predetermined node at said home network, to facilitate control of said mobile telephony apparatus using said home network determined conditions. There is also provided a server component at the home network to support the client. Generally the roaming user only generates a single trigger, and this causes difficulties if multiple services need triggering for the same call, such as a prepaid unit and the optimal voicemail deposit. The disclosure teaches methods which when used in combination provide a system that can operate at the home network irrespective of the configuration of the roaming network.

The handling unit acts as a local home location register for handling local management of the roaming handset using both the second number and the first number, thus allowing the handset to identify itself using the first number but be called using the second number at local call rates.

Abstract: A global location register (GLR) provides a proxy for visitor location registers to the home location registers to avoid updating of the external network with location update notifications upon transfer of a roaming user between visitor location registers. The standard GLR is extended by being configured with multiple addresses, has a soft shutdown procedure, has a blacklist mechanism, a searching facility for finding lost roaming users, and has a mechanism for overcoming ambiguities in local identification numbers assigned by visitor location registers.
