Abstract: The new and distinct improved variety of strawberry plant resulted from crossing the Trumpeter variety (unpatented) with the Red Giant variety (U.S. Pat. No. 2,884). The plant bears a general resemblance to the Red Giant variety, but forms fruit which ripens a week to ten days earlier which is of better flavor and remains of a uniform large size throughout the picking season.

Abstract: A new and distinct peach variety which originated by the crossing of an unnamed New Jersey seedling No. 585414 with pollen from the Autumnglo variety is provided. This new variety is a late maturing yellow freestone peach variety which bears large round firm fruit having an attractive bright red skin color (as illustrated). The fruit flesh is golden yellow in color, and slow softening with a superior rich and delicious flavor. The fruit buds exhibit exceptionally good winter hardiness. Also, the variety has exhibited improved tolerance to common bacterial leaf spot disease.

Abstract: A new and distinct variety of rhubarb plant is provided which originated as a mutation of the Valentine variety. This new variety is characterized by stalks of extremely large diameter, stalks which are red on both the inside and on the outside, tender stalks which cook-up well in the absence of strings and which require a substantially lesser quantity of sugar during processing, prominent leaf ribs, and the absence of seed stalks. This variety has been named the K-1 variety.

Abstract: A new and distinct apple variety which originated by the crossing of an unnamed New Jersey seedling No. 109055 (non-patented) with pollen from the Mollies Delicious cultivar (non-patented) is provided. This new apple variety can be distinguished by the early maturing characteristic of its large conic shaped fruit which has an attractive bright red skin color (as illustrated). Also, the new variety produces more uniformly sized fruit than the pollen parent Mollies Delicious cultivar. The fruit flesh is white to cream in color and similar to Mollies Delicious cultivar in flavor.

Abstract: A new and distinct apple variety which originated as a limb mutation of the standard Cortland apple tree (non-patented) is provided. This new apple variety can be distinguished by its compact vigorous growth habit, and the ability to form fruit on spurs which are present in substantially greater numbers per linear foot on two, three, and four year old wood. The tree upon maturity is only approximately 60 to 65 percent of the size of the standard Cortland apple tree.

Abstract: A new and distinct spur type apple variety which originated as a limb mutation of the standard winter banana apple tree (non-patented) is provided. This new apple variety possesses a vigorous compact and only slightly spreading growth habit and can be distinguished from its parent and the Housden spur type winter banana apple variety (non-patented). More specifically, the new variety forms more fruiting spurs per unit length on two and three year old wood than the standard winter banana apple tree and less spurs per unit length than the Housden spur type winter banana apple tree. Additionally, the new variety has the ability to heavily bear fruit having a whitish-yellow skin color with a sometimes slight scarlet red blush upon maturity which is substantially identical to that of the standard winter banana apple tree and which has substantially less skin russeting than the Housden spur type winter banana apple tree.

Abstract: A new and distinct variety of Butternut tree (i.e. Juglans cinerea) is provided which originated as a chance seedling among seedlings produced from seed planted in a cultivated area. The new variety is of unknown parentage and readily can be distinguished by its ability to form large quantities of nuts which are frequently borne in clusters of five or more. Unlike nuts commonly formed on Butternut trees, the nuts of the present variety have the ability to readily separate from the hull. Additionally, the trees of the present variety exhibit good winter hardiness and resistance to the Witches'-Broom disease which commonly afflicts Butternut trees.

Abstract: A new and distinct peach variety which originated by the crossing of an unnamed New Jersey seedling No. 602903 with pollen from the Pallas variety is provided. The freestone fruit of the new variety has a highly blushed red skin and a distinctive configuration which is vertically compressed and oblate. The flesh is fine and tender and of mild and delicate flavor. The variety has exhibited resistance to common bacterial leaf spot, and the fruit buds have exhibited exceptionally good winter hardiness.

Abstract: A new and distinct peach variety which originated by the crossing of an unnamed nectarine seedling No. 16K275 and an unnamed peach seedling No. 54P105 is provided. The new variety is a genetic dwarf which bears early maturing attractive highly blushed medium sized globose fruit which is firm and of mild flavor. When grown at LeGrand, Calif. the fruit commonly ripens at approximately June 15 to 25th.

The fruit of the new variety is early maturing and unlike most low chilling nectarine varieties has a higher level of red skin coloration, and excellent commercial qualities such as firmness and the ability to withstand handling and shipping. The new variety originated as a second generation cross of the Red Grand nectarine variety U.S. Plant Pat. No. 1,060) and the Desert Gold peach variety (non-patented). The new variety of the present invention is particularly suited for growing in the United States in zone 9 and the northern tip of zone 10.

Abstract: A new and distinct spur-type Red Delicious apple variety is provided which originated as a limb mutation of the apple tree of U.S. Plant Pat. No. 2,816. The fruit of the new variety is conic shaped and highly attractive since at maturity it is fully covered with conspicuous dark red stripes over a bright red ground color. Unlike fruit formed on the parent, the fruit of the new variety colors approximately 15 days earlier, and colors more fully in years when environmental conditions do not favour the coloring of Red Delicious apples.

Abstract: A new and distinct spur-type Red Delicious apple variety is provided which originated as a limb mutation of the apple tree of U.S. Plant Pat. No. 2,816. Unlike its parent cultivar, the fruit of the new variety colors approximately 15 to 20 days earlier, is roundly conical in configuration, and exhibits a solid dark red blush with no stripes. The fruit of the new variety resembles closely that of the variety of U.S. Plant Pat. No. 3,025, but differs therefrom in that it is free from russet. Also, the fruit of the new variety colors more fully earlier in the season than that of the varieties of U.S. Plant Pat. Nos. 1,565, 1,916, and 3,578.

Abstract: A new and distinct apricot variety which has an extended bloom period and is somewhat spring frost tolerant is provided. The tree is very productive, spreading, hardy, and self-pollinating. The medium sized fruit of this new variety ripens over a relatively long period and is juicy, meaty textured, deliciously flavored, and has an orange skin with an attractive bright red blush. The fruit also has an edible sweet kernel.

Abstract: A new and distinct apple variety is provided which is especially well adapted for growing in warmer apple growing areas because of its unusually good heat tolerance. The new variety possesses a medium large upright and spreading growth habit and abundantly forms attractive dessert-type fruit. Such fruit is tangy and richly flavored, and possesses a bright red skin coloration coupled with exceptionally good flesh firmness when compared to other early ripening apple varieties.

Abstract: A new and distinct variety of Jonathan apple tree is provided which originated as a limb mutation of the Snyder cultivar of U.S. Plant Pat. No. 2,650. The new variety produces attractive red variable-sized fruit which colors approximately 10 to 14 days earlier than the fruit of the Snyder cultivar. Also, the fruit of the new variety exhibits a brighter red appearance and is formed more abundantly and more consistently than the fruit of the Super Jon cultivar of U.S. Plant Pat. No. 5,086.

Abstract: A new and distinct variety of apple tree is provided which originated as a limb mutation of the Tenroy variety (U.S. Plant Pat. No. 4,121). The new variety produces attractive fruit having a solid cherry red coloration unlike that of the Tenroy variety. More specifically, the new variety possesses a solid intense cherry red coloration with often indistinct darker red overstriping. The red coloration of the new variety is present over the entire surface of the fruit and develops earlier than the coloration of the Tenroy variety.

Abstract: The new nectarine cultivar originated as a limb mutation of unknown causation on a tree present in a young orchard of the N.J. 260 peach cultivar (U.S. Plant Pat. No. 4,572). The new cultivar is substantially similar to the N.J. 260 cultivar with the exception that the fruit is that of a nectarine and lacks pubescence. The fruit of the new cultivar commonly ripens a few days earlier than the late-ripening N.J. 260 cultivar, and its fruit commonly is slightly smaller than that of the N.J. 260 cultivar. The new cultivar generally can be grown in the northern fruit production areas of the United States where the N.J. 260 cultivar is grown.

Abstract: A new and distinct variety of apricot tree is provided which originated as a single bud sport or limb mutation of the `Castlebrite` cultivar (non-patented in the United States). The new cultivar has been named `Earli Sun`, and can be distinguished by its freestone fruits which are substantially similar in color and appearance to those of `Castlebrite` cultivar, yet are significantly larger in size, being ripening approximately two days later than those of the `Castlebrite` cultivar, and are markedly lower in the acidity of the flesh at harvest.

Abstract: A new and distinct nectarine tree named Pollok is provided. The new cultivar originated from an open-pollinated peach seed of unknown parentage that was planted by the originator during 1978 or 1979. The new variety is a consistent producer of attractive moderately large freestone fruit with a high degree of bright red skin coloration which ripens late in the commercial nectarine harvest season of the Eastern United States. Firm highly-flavored moderately acidic yellow fruit flesh of excellent quality is formed having only a slight amount of red tinging. The growth habit is moderately vigorous. The firmness of the fruit flesh renders it well amenable for shipment to consumers.
