Patents Assigned to Starkville Tool and Die Company
  • Patent number: 4453481
Abstract: A device for incorporating the leading edge of material such as threads or stitches in the initial stitches of a workpiece is provided by the utilization of a pneumatically activated clamp and cutting knife mounted forward of the throat plate and presser foot assembly of a sewing or stitching machine. The device for clamping, cutting and incorporating the leading edge of threads or chain stitches in the initial stitches of the workpiece is achieved by clamping, severing and thereafter adjustably releasing the threads or stitches after a predetermined number of needle penetrations.

  • Patent number: 4436231
Abstract: A method and apparatus for turning and pre-forming gloves is provided wherein the 5 fingers of a glove are mounted on a plurality of spaced members having resilient ends adapted for individually receiving a plurality of correspondingly spaced rods and a packer mechanism for disposition between at least two of said spaced tubular members for stretching the fingers of the gloves around the resilient ends of said tubular members and thereafter inserting said rods in the resilient ends of the tubular members to tension all of the fingers into the tubular members and thereafter releasing the packing device from between the fingers and further forming the fingers of the glove into the tubular members to a predetermined depth at which time a shuck element is activated to turn the palm and cuff of the glove over the plurality of rods of the turning rod assembly.

  • Patent number: 4423692
Abstract: A pneumatic needle positioner for positioning a needle of sewing and stitching machines in a predetermined position in the sewing or stitching cycle is provided by utilizing a handwheel sensing device in cooperation with a pneumatically powered positioning motor engageably disposed relative to a drive V-belt which engages the V-belt with a V-belt pulley of the pneumatic needle positioning motor at the end of the sewing cycle, by the actuation of a biasing piston having a roller to tension the V-belt toward the pulley disposed on the pneumatically powered positioning motor. Preferably the biasing piston and roller for the pneumatically powered positioning motor is disposed slightly above or below an axially adjacent position to the air motor pulley to provide a sinesoidal shaped bias against the pnematically powered positioning motor pulley to more effectively cooperate with the positioning device to achieve a more reliable and accurate positioning of the needle.

  • Patent number: 4343255
Abstract: An automatic placket shirt front forming machine and method for sewing placket shirt fronts is provided which utilizes an apparatus and method to automatically position, sew, mitre cut and remove a sewn placket shirt front and stack the placket shirt front. The method and apparatus requires the operator to only master the task of properly layering the material which may be facilitated by utilizing a set of guides. Once the material is layered and aligned, the operator has only to activate a start or reset button to clamp, transfer and position the placket shirt front and automatically start the sequential operation of sewing and mitre cutting, thread cutting and stacking of the finished placket shirt front.
