  • Patent number: 5727296
Abstract: A tool carrier of a five-axis machine tool can be swivelled about a swivel axis which intersects a machining axis, about which a milling head is rotatable, in the region of the latter, at an acute angle which is preferably between 30.degree. and 60.degree., most preferably 45.degree.. As a result, during swivelling movements, only slight compensating movements, distributed over all the axes, are necessary, and yet the tool carrier can be kept short, so that deformations of the same remain small, which ensures high stability and great accuracy. In addition, large swivel angles of 90.degree. or more on both sides are possible without collision problems, which permits a great degree of adaptation of the position of the cutting edge to the workpiece surface and high surface quality as a result. The machine tool is especially suitable for milling turbine and engine blades as well as compressor impellers.

  • Patent number: 5125775
Abstract: A tool for abrading workpieces having random, convex, concave, planar or curved surfaces has a conically convex end face. When working a workpiece, the tool acquires an inclination transversely to the feed direction, so that the tool with the contact line is located on the workpiece. This leads to the same conditions as exist in the rotary milling of convexly curved surfaces when machining concave surfaces of the workpiece. Finest surface characteristics are obtained on the workpiece by the tool and the method of machining with this tool.

  • Patent number: 4943199
Abstract: Machine tool apparatus utilizes a tool magazine provided with first plurality of horizontally extending parallel separate compartments disposed vertically one above the other. A plurality of elongated tool units are disposed in the compartments, each compartment containing a like number of units, the units in each compartment being disposed in spaced side by side position across the width of the compartment. Each unit in any compartment is vertically aligned with the correspondingly positioned units in all other compartments. Displaceable, first mechanisms coupled to each unit enable each unit to be separately moveable back and forth along the length of its compartment to either extend the unit out of its compartment into position for subsequent transfer or to retract the corresponding unit back into its compartment.

  • Patent number: 4798505
Abstract: On the tool spindle of a machine tool, a hollow ring is mounted on the headstock or on the sleeve flange thereof and is provided on its underside with an annular clearance forming an endless ring nozzle. A pressurized fluid is introduced into the channel of the hollow ring and passes out of the annular clearance in the form of a closed fluid curtain, so that a closed space surrounding the machining station is formed. So as to obtain a permanent seal with the fluid curtain, an annular element comprising a deflecting ring, a filter ring and a straightening ring is built into the annular channel and as a result the latter is subdivided into an upper and a lower partial ring channel. The suspended dust formed during the machining of a workpiece is held back by the fluid curtain, but the machining point is still visible and unimpeded access is possible.

  • Patent number: 4783902
Abstract: A rotor having an upper and a lower track is rotatably mounted on a column. Tool magazines equipped with running devices are mounted on the tracks. On a store frame is fixed a first gripper mechanism having second lifting units enabling a selected tool magazine to be blocked on the rotor and brought into the loading and unloading position. A second gripper mechanism is mounted on the rotor and is used for seeking a selected tool magazine, for securing it to the rotor and bringing to the first gripper mechanism. By forming a magazine free section on the rotor, a display arm and a loading and unloading station can be used to remove tools from the store and return them again. By using a further display arm, tools can be changed manually or by means of a portal loader during the machining time. As only one magazine-free section is required for loading and unloading, the store can have a much a higher store capacity than known stores.
