Abstract: A lidar and one or more electro-optical (EO) imaging device may asynchronously acquire lidar shots and EO images. Navigation data comprising positioning, orientation, acceleration, and/or velocity information may be acquired as the lidar and EO data is captured. The lidar shots, EO images, and/or navigation data may be time stamped. The navigation and timing data may be used to associate a particular lidar shot and/or EO image with navigation data. The EO images may be captured at a higher capture rate and at a higher spatial resolution than the lidar shots. The navigation data may be used to cross correlate a lidar shot to a selected plurality of overlapping EO images. Ranging model information may be determined from EO image sequences using a stereo imaging technique. The stereo imaging technique may be seeded using the lidar shot data.

  • Publication number: 20100204964
Abstract: A 3-D model of a subject matter may be constructed from a plurality of lidar shots and overlapping EO images of the subject matter. Each of the lidar shots may be mapped to image patches within two or more of the EO images using navigation data associated with the lidar shots and EO images. Each of the back-projected lidar points may be set as a centroid of an image patch (collection of pixels) within an EO image. With the aid of the lidar centroids, the image patches in overlapping EO images may be correlated and an image-based pixel-to-pixel coordinate association therebetween may be calculated. Using this refined pixel-to-pixel coordinate association, a 3-D model of the subject matter may be constructed and refined using photogrammetry techniques. Videogrammetry techniques, such as optical flow techniques, may be applied if a sufficient amount of EO imagery data is available.

  • Publication number: 20100204072
Abstract: A lubricant composition is disclosed that includes (a) a machining oil and (b) an exfoliated graphite nanoparticle (EGN) material stably dispersed in the machining oil. The lubricant composition is a stable suspension and is suitable for use as a liquid lubricant in a Minimum Quantity Lubrication (MQL) process. In the MQL process, the lubricant composition is applied/transferred to a worksite in the form of a mist. The presence of the EGN material in the lubricant composition provides high-temperature stability and lubricity under MQL conditions. A very small amount is transferred especially at high cutting speeds where the mist of the machining oil evaporates, but the EGN material remains on the surface to provide lubricity. Any operation involving machining can benefit from this lubricant composition. The method provides important benefits of reducing chipping on cutting tools and providing the additional lubricity especially when the cutting become very hot and thus extending tool life.

  • Patent number: 7772212
Abstract: Isomaltooligosaccharides (IMOs) produced by Leuconostoc mesenteroides ATCC 13146 fermentation with a sucrose:maltose ratio of 2:1 have been discovered to be effective prebiotics in mixed cultures of microbial populations, including cultures from chicken ceca. Surprisingly in mixed microbial cultures this IMO composition proved as effective as FOS. Thus, these IMOs can be used as effective prebiotics for both birds and mammals. Moreover, the IMOs were discovered to be effective non-competitive inhibitors of ?-glucosidase. These IMOs also will be useful, as an ?-glucosidase inhibitor, in a therapeutic application for several diseases, including obesity, diabetes mellitus, pre-diabetes, gastritis, gastric ulcer, duodenal ulcer, caries, cancer, viral disease such as hepatitis B and C, HIV, and AIDS. A diet with 5-20% IMOs was also shown to reduce the abdominal fat tissue in mammals.

  • Publication number: 20100198039
Abstract: The invention relates to wireless biotelemetry of low level bioelectric and biosensor signals by means of directly modulating the backscatter of a resonant circuit. Low level electrical analog or digital signals are directly applied to a resonant circuit containing a voltage-variable capacitor such as a varactor diode, that proportionally shifts the resonant frequency and so amplitude of radiofrequency backscatter in a way that represents analog bioelectric or biosensor waveform data. By strongly driving the resonant circuit with a radiofrequency source, a voltage variable capacitance can be caused to amplify the bio-signal level by a parametric process and so provide sufficient sensitivity to telemeter for low millivolt and microvolt level signals without additional amplification. A feature of the device is its simplicity and that it accomplishes both modulation and preamplification of low level sensor signals by the same variable capacitance circuit which reduces the device size and power consumption.

Abstract: The invention provides novel mesoporous particles and methods for the selective sequestration of organic compounds from microorganisms, such as from various genera and species of algae that produce important organic compounds. The organic compounds can be selectively sequestered, for example, in favor of biodiesel impurities such as sterols and chlorophyll, to provide substantially pure free fatty acids.
