  • Patent number: 7311702
Abstract: A catheter based delivery system may be used for both therapeutic and diagnostic applications. The catheter based delivery system includes a catheter having a distal end. The distal end of the catheter includes several electrodes that can emit a radio frequency waveform, and may receive a signal representative of an impedance of material in the exposed to the radio frequency waveform. The radio frequency waveform may also be applied to ablate specifically targeted material exposed to the radio frequency waveform. The several electrodes may be configured as an antenna.

  • Patent number: 6962577
Abstract: A hemodialysis port comprising a flexible housing member defining one or more ports. Each port has a selectively-permeable septum member disposed thereon to permit medical devices, for example, Huber needles, sheath and/or dilators to be inserted therein. At the interface between the housing and the septum, a spring member is provided to provide an axial force on the septum which seals the puncture created by the aforementioned medical devices. In one exemplary embodiment, the hemodialysis access port of the present invention is comprised of a plurality of ports designed for multiple hemodialysis treatments over the life of the port. In other exemplary embodiments, the bottom of each port may comprise a needle stop insert formed of, for example, metal, titanium, stainless steel or ceramic.

  • Patent number: 6527754
Abstract: The present invention provides an improved vascular access port comprising a port base with a metallic dish insert molded (or bonded) into the bottom of the reservoir. In one embodiment, a single reservoir is provided. In another embodiment, plural reservoirs are provided. The metallic bottom of the reservoir provides a hard surface that will resist abrasion and puncture by the access needles used to infuse medication or withdraw blood. Additionally, the single and dual ports can include exit ports that are intended to better anatomically fit into the subcutaneous areas around muscle tissue.

  • Patent number: 6520964
Abstract: The present invention provides tools and methods for mapping and measuring the articular surface of a joint (or of any bony surface) and for fabricating a prosthetic device based on this recorded data. In one embodiment, once the defect of the chondral surface has been identified, a guide pin is inserted arthroscopically. A fixation screw is driven into the subchondral bone in relation to a reference axis that is approximately central to the defect, the fixation device also serving to define a tangent point to the surrounding articular surface. A further cylindrical proximal extension of the screw that eventually serves as a fixation element for the surface prosthetic is concealed with a cover or plug. The depth positioning of the cover or plug establishes an origin or reference point for all future measuring, cutting, and prosthetic machining operations. A measuring tool having a static post that establishes the axial location of origin is inserted on the reference axis.
