Patent number: 6427502Abstract: A tailgate locking device includes a cylinder lock supported by a bracket which fits into the recess present in the standard insert or bezel which surrounds the latch handle in a truck tailgate. The bracket is secured to the tailgate in such a way that it cannot be removed from the tailgate either from the inside or outside thereof. When the lock is rotated to a locked position, it moves a locking arm into position in front of the latch handle thereby preventing actuation of the latch to open the tailgate. Rotation of the lock to its unlocked position frees the latch handle allowing the tailgate to be opened.Type: GrantFiled: October 29, 1999Date of Patent: August 6, 2002Assignee: Steadfast CorporationInventor: Dimiter S. Patent number: 6209366Abstract: A tailgate locking device includes a bezel used in place of the conventional bezel to surround a tailgate handle aperture. When a key-operated lock is rotated to a locked position, it moves a locking arm into position in front of a handle arm thereby preventing an interloper from actuating the handle to open the tailgate. Preferably the key-lock rotation also moves one or more retention bolts into positions behind the exterior panel of the tailgate to prevent removal of the locking device. Rotation of the lock to its unlocked position frees the tailgate handle and retracts the retention bolts.Type: GrantFiled: December 17, 1998Date of Patent: April 3, 2001Assignee: Steadfast CorporationInventor: Dimiter S. Patent number: 5379617Abstract: An anti-theft device surrounds the plastic housing for the ignition switch, the protruding plastic lock barrel and the exposed end of the lock cylinder with hardened steel. The device consists of (i) a hardened steel bracket which attaches directly to the housing and the steering column with screws, (ii) a cup-like cover which attaches to the bracket, covering the housing, the screws and the protruding lock barrel with hardened steel, and (iii) a torque-sensitive end cap which is rotateably supported by the cover. The torque-sensitive cap consists of an outer sleeve and a center disk press fit into the sleeve. The disk includes a key slot for access to the lock cylinder. The disk is the same size as an opening in the cover, which accommodates key access to the lock cylinder. The sleeve is rigid and larger in diameter than the opening. An indentation in the cap sleeve engages a boss on the lock cylinder to align the slot in the disk with the lock cylinder keyhole and operate the lock.Type: GrantFiled: March 1, 1993Date of Patent: January 10, 1995Assignee: Steadfast CorporationInventor: Dimiter S. Patent number: 5303971Abstract: A tailgate release handle security device for attachment to a tailgate incorporates a cover comprising a metal plate and an integral inwardly extending skirt having a rim which bears against an outer panel of a tailgate. A pair of hooks, attached to the skirt, extend outward through a pair of apertures in the tailgate release handle recess and bear against the back of the tailgate outer panel. A cylindrical lock, mounted in the plate, has a locking dog which presses outwardly against the upper edge of the back of a tailgate release handle when the security device is attached to the tailgate.Type: GrantFiled: April 30, 1992Date of Patent: April 19, 1994Assignee: Steadfast CorporationInventors: Roger L. Patent number: 5197315Abstract: The automobile anti-theft device consists of a hardened steel collar which encircles the steering column of the automobile and includes two rotatably attached sections which are attached to each other by sliding one end of a first section underneath an end of the second section. The first section has a projection on the end which fits into a radially extending recess on the underside of the second section and thus acts as a pivot point about which the first section rotates relative to the second section. The first section consists of an arcuate body, which is shaped to cover a portion of the side of the steering column, and a projection which extends radially out from the arcuate body. When this section is in place on the steering column, the projection is thus approximately perpendicular to the steering column. The second section consists of an arcuate body which is shaped to cover a portion of the steering column which is contiguous with and on the same side as the portion covered by the first section.Type: GrantFiled: August 15, 1991Date of Patent: March 30, 1993Assignee: Steadfast CorporationInventor: Dimiter S. Patent number: 5104171Abstract: A tailgate guard assembly incorporates a metal plate that closes off the handle recess. The plate is stiffened by an inwardly extending skirt welded to the back of the plate so that the skirt projects into the handle recess to hinder direct access into the handle recess under the edge of the plate. A hinge section along the top edge of the plate hooks in behind the outer panel of the tailgate along the top of the handle recess. A lock disposed near the lower end of one of the sides of the handle recess has a locking dog that rotates to a locking position in which it latches behind the outer panel of the tailgate without any structural modifications or additions to the tailgate. Once the tailgate guard assembly is hooked by its hinge section to the tailgate, the assembly is swung downward toward the tailgate until the lock is positioned so that the locking dog can be turned to its locking position.Type: GrantFiled: June 12, 1991Date of Patent: April 14, 1992Assignee: Steadfast CorporationInventors: Roger L.
