  • Publication number: 20110025606
Abstract: A writing apparatus comprises a housing and a keyboard mounted in the housing and having keys representing symbols of a language. Each key is moveable from a rest position. Sensors sense position of each key and develop a signal representing position of each key. A controller is operatively connected to the sensors for monitoring the signal. The controller is configured to determine if any of the keys are pressed by monitoring the position of each key and for any given key determining if an amount of change in position from the rest position for the given key is greater than a select movement amount and rate of change in position for the given key is greater than a selected velocity amount, and generating change in an output state for the given key responsive to the given key being pressed.

  • Patent number: 7403375
Abstract: The adjustable LCD screen assembly for a writing machine includes base and an LCD screen assembly coupled to each other by a hinge assembly. An embodiment of the hinge assembly includes a pivot post and a pair locking set screws, Bellville spring washers, a screw, an anti-rotation washer, a first bracket and a second bracket. The hinge assembly mounts to the base along the first bracket and to the LCD screen assembly along the second bracket. The hinge assembly utilizes a compression mechanism including a spring mechanism to generate frictional force between the elements of the hinge assembly to hold the LCD screen assembly in place with respect to the base under “static conditions,” yet allows for infinite adjustability of the LCD screen assembly, within a given range of motion, under “pivoting conditions.

  • Patent number: 6736558
Abstract: A disposable ink ribbon cartridge for use in a shorthand machine. The cartridge includes an endless loop ribbon threaded through an advancing mechanism in contact with a movable ink reservoir. The advancing mechanism advances the ribbon and also transfers ink from the ink reservoir to the ribbon. The ink reservoir is made from a reticulated foam which provides an even supply of ink over a long period of time. The movable ink reservoir and the advancing mechanism interact to minimize friction between the moving parts of the cartridge. The ink reservoir and advancing mechanism deliver consistent and even doses of ink to the ribbon throughout the life of the cartridge.
