  • Patent number: 4941848
Abstract: A plug and jack connector for multi-conductor cable is provided with shielding to attenuate EMI/RFI radiation passing into and out from the jack and/or plug and an arrangement for grounding electrostatic charge carried on the cable shield. The jack is designed for insertion into a printed circuit board and includes a front housing part formed of electrically conductive material, an insulative rear housing part and a plurality of contacts having leads which are totally enclosed within the housing. The front housing part is the shielding member of the jack and is adapted to be grounded, such as by mounting on a chassis. The plug is of modular construction. Shield apparatus surrounds the plug to provide interference attenuation and extends into a cable shield terminating portion of the plug cavity to electrically engage a conductive ferrule applied around the cable which engages the cable shield to provide a path for grounding the cable shield.

  • Patent number: 4767355
Abstract: A jack adapted for connection to a printed circuit board or the like for a modular plug connector having a cord shield terminating contact includes a housing formed of plurality of jack parts adapted to interfit with each other to define an elongated receptacle for receiving the connector. One of the jack parts constitutes a grounding and shielding part formed of electrically conductive material and having top, bottom and side walls defining a closed, sleeve-like member. Each of the walls has a longitudinally extending inner surface at least a substantial portion of which bounds the plug receptacle so that a substantial portion of the receptacle is bounded on all of its sides by the electrically conductive material of the grounding and shielding part. The top, bottom and side walls of the grounding and shielding parts substantially surround the plug receiving receptacle on all of its sides substantially over its length.

  • Patent number: 4641901
Abstract: A jack for modular plug connectors designed for connection to a printed circuit board includes a housing formed of three parts which when interfitted define a receptacle for receiving a modular plug connector which terminates a multi-conductor cord. A plurality of jack contacts are held through the interfitting relationship of the various housing parts in a manner such that the jack contacts are entirely enclosed within the housing except for the projecting portions thereof which are adapted to be inserted into the printed circuit board. The plug receiving receptacle is partially defined by a surface adapted to provide a backing support for the jack contact portions engaged by the contact terminals of the modular plug connector.

  • Patent number: 4578545
Abstract: A contact for a telephone transmitter is formed of a single piece of electrically conductive metal with a connector portion adapted to receive a contact terminal of a conductor associated with a modular connector receiving jack within the telephone handset, a curved, flexible contact portion adapted to electrically engage the central or outer contact of a telephone transmitter and an intermediate fastening portion. The fastening portion cooperates with an opening formed in the base wall of a telephone transmitter cup to permit the contact to be affixed thereto such that the contact portion is situated within the cup to electrically engage the transmitter contact and such that the connector portion is situated beneath the transmitter cup base wall for engaging the contact terminal of the jack conductor.

  • Patent number: 4222163
Abstract: An apparatus and method for assembling articles such as clips, comprising first and second components formed from metallic sheet stock, said apparatus including an outer annular member and second and third dial members mounted within the annular member, the annular and dial members being rotatably mounted in a synchronized manner associated with the cycling of a die press. A pair of article components are punched from a sheet of metallic stock during each press cycle and are pushed through an opening in a die block to be received and held at a receiving station in a horizontal orientation in respective ones of a plurality of clamping assemblies formed in each of the outer annular member and second inner dial member, respectively. A pair of article components are punched on a continuous basis with each press cycle with the successively formed pairs of components being received in successive pairs of clamping assemblies which rotatably index under the die block opening.
