Patent number: 7690490Abstract: The invention relates to a friction clutch consisting of primary and secondary disks and a pressure plate. The clutch also includes an actuator with two coaxial rings that can be rotated independent of one another. The rings compress the disks during relative rotation. In order to provide an actuator which operates accurately and with zero loss, an electric motor having at least one drive wheel is provided for the relative rotation of both rings. The drive wheel is drivingly connected to the two rings by a traction means. Two chains of the traction means lead from the drive wheel to the rotatable rings, wherein the ends of the chains are fixed to their corresponding ring, and the two rings have different diameters.Type: GrantFiled: May 21, 2004Date of Patent: April 6, 2010Assignee: Magna Steyr Powertrain AG & Co KGInventor: Johannes Quehenberger

Patent number: 7032733Abstract: A device for setting the torque transmitted by a friction clutch (12), having an actuator chain which comprises an electric motor (45), a step-down gear (42) and a mechanism for converting the rotational movement into a displacement of a pressure plate (29) of the clutch (12), so as to enable the torque which is transmitted to be set precisely and rapidly even given high friction. For this purpose, the electric motor (45) and/or step-down gear (42) is/are affected by friction, the conversion mechanism (31, 32, 35, 36, 40) and/or the friction clutch (12) itself is/are affected by elasticity, and, to set the torque (Md) of the friction clutch (12), a position regulator (47) which is operatively connected to the electric motor (45) and a sensor (46; 46?) which determines the position of one of the links of the actuator chain (45, 42, 41, 40, 36, 35, 32, 31, 29) are provided, the sensor being present at a location upstream of a substantial part of the elasticity in the force-flow direction.Type: GrantFiled: September 13, 2002Date of Patent: April 25, 2006Assignee: Magna Steyr Powertrain AG & Co. Patent number: 6854358Abstract: A balance shaft unit for internal combustion engines consists of at least one balance shaft (6, 7) supported in a balance casing (5) and counterweights (8) connected onto it. In order to achieve maximum precision, reliable fastening and minimum external dimensions at minimum manufacturing costs, the counterweight (8) is essentially a cylindrical ring with two end surfaces (61) normal to the axis and with a cutout (55) in the longitudinally central region, so that the counterweight consists of two ring parts (60, 61) abutting the two end surfaces (61) and an intermediate segmental part (62). One of the end surfaces (61) of the counterweight (8) forms, jointly with a machined surface (33) of the balance casing (5), a thrust bearing (32).Type: GrantFiled: October 19, 2000Date of Patent: February 15, 2005Assignee: Steyr Powertrain AG & Co. Patent number: 6776275Abstract: Drive system for an all-wheel driven motor vehicle having a first and a second driven axle (3, 9), which drive system has a differential-speed-dependent clutch (6) for driving the second driven axle, and an at least partially lockable differential (8) between the wheels of the second driven axle (9). The differential-speed-dependent clutch (6) comprises a pump (10) which, when a differential speed occurs, produces a pressure which leads to the transmission of a torque to the second driven axle (9). In order to ensure that the differential lock responds in a manner coordinated neatly in terms of time and taking account of the driving state, a connecting line (18) leads from the delivery side (11 or 12) of the pump (10) to an actuating member (27) of the lockable differential (8), with the result that, when a differential speed occurs, the pressure produced by the pump (10; 67) makes it possible to at least partially lock the differential (8) by means of a positive locking clutch (26).Type: GrantFiled: March 26, 2003Date of Patent: August 17, 2004Assignee: Steyr Powertrain AG & Co. KGInventor: Franz Gratzer
