Abstract: A flexible yoke or mounting body for a pod support apparatus, such as a monopod or bipod, includes a resilient section interposed between leg(s) of the pod support and a device supported thereon. The resilient section is preferably formed of a bendable elastomeric material to thereby facilitate manual tilting of the portable equipment on the pod support apparatus. In a multipod embodiment, the yoke or mounting body may include multiple leg extensions of elastomeric material for detachably securing multiple support legs thereto in angularly-spaced relation. The resilient section may allow the legs of a multipod to be moved independently of each other. A quick-detachable coupling device is preferably provided for detachably and rotatably coupling a piece of portable equipment such as a rifle or spotting scope to the pod support device.
Abstract: A method of adjustably positioning and attaching mounting rings to a firearm for subsequent attachment of an optical gun sight (telescopic sight) within the rings. Two separate beams of coherent or monochromatic light are utilized, both of which are directed onto a remote target. The first beam is created from a bore sighting assembly which directs its beam through the bore of the firearm. The second beam originates from a hollow cylindrical light source mounted within the rings, the outer diameter of the hollow cylinder being designed to mate within the actual mounting rings which are being positioned. With both beams simultaneously impinging upon the remote target, the user may then positionably adjust the rings retaining the second source of coherent light so that the user, with data on the ballistics of the ammunition to be used, may accurately pre-adjust the mounting rings on the firearm prior to mounting the scope within the mounting rings.
Abstract: A bore sighting assembly for accurately mounting a telescopic sight on a rifle or other firearm, with the sighting assembly utilizing a laser beam generator for creating a beam having a diameter of less than that of the bore, and with the light being directed axially through the bore onto a remote target. In addition to the laser generator, the bore sighting assembly includes a guide for controllably directing the beam from the generator through and along the axis of the bore for impingement onto a remote target. The guide includes eccentric bushings for adjustably positioning the laser generator in the receiver area of the rifle or firearm, and a beam control disc may be secured to the distal tip of the barrel for additional guidance and control of the laser beam.
Abstract: A telescoping tube assembly of adjustable lengths comprising two or more elongated tubular members with a locking mechanism designed to retain the tubular members and desired relative relationship one to another. The locking mechanism includes a truncated conical expander head with a cylindrical body segment and a conical tip segment, with the expander head functioning cooperatively with a radially expanded frictional break member. A square head (or head of other non-circular configuration), is used to cause relative rotation between the conical expander head and the radially expanding brake member. Annular hinges are provided between the cap portion and the radially expanding friction shoes of the break member, with the integral annular hinges flexing in opposite directions to provide broader area of contact between the internal peripheral of the tubular member and the outer surfaces of the frictional break member.
