Abstract: The invention relates to a heat-sealable packaging material and a sealed package formed from the same, especially for packaging foodstuffs. The packaging material comprises a base layer of paper or board and polymeric heat-sealable layers on one side of the base layer or, preferably, on both sides thereof. According to the invention, at least two layers of ethylene vinyl alcohol copolymer (EVOH) with different fractions of ethylene monomer are arranged on the packaging material to provide an oxygen barrier. The layers can locate against each other without a tie layer between them. The heat-sealable polymer can be a polyolefin, and, in addition, other polymeric barrier layers can be incorporated into the material to improve its oxygen, fat and aroma tightness.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method for manufacturing a board tray (7), to a tray blank feasible for the method, and to a tray obtained by the method. The method comprises moulding a blank of plastic-coated board into the tray (7) comprising a bottom (3), side walls (4), as well as a rim flange (5), the blank being compressed in a direction transverse to the tray's side walls and rim flange. According to the invention, the blank is made thinner on its side opposite to the plastic coating such that, during the moulding process, the plastic coating double-folds at the compressed parts and stabilizes compressions (8) by becoming sealed to itself. Making the blank thinner is most conveniently effected by carving the board layer with a laser beam for having the fiber material predominantly or completely removed from where the cuts are located. As a result of the moulding process, the tray's rim flange (5) develops a smooth plastic surface which enables closing the tray hermetically with a heat-sealed cover.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method and an apparatus for jointing members made of plastic-coated paper or board. In accordance with the invention, the sealable members are retained in position with clamps (8) and sealing is performed with a laser sealing means (7) moving along the sealing line, a means (9) for opening the seal point pressing the members apart to continue keeping the seal point open, a laser beam (11) being directed to the open seal point for melting the coating plastic and a means (12) for closing the seal pressing finally the members against each other, the plastic jointing the members when solidified. The method is applicable to lateral sealing of bag or container packages formed of blanks (1), among other things.

Abstract: The invention relates to a cup package made of a fibre-based material and to a method for manufacturing it. The package comprises a cup 1 for the product 9 to be packaged and a lid 2 for closing the cup mouth. In accordance with the invention, the lid is partially nested in the cup, the adhesion between the inner surface of the cup and the lid retaining the lid in position. Adjacent beads, such as mouth rolls 5, 8 have been formed at the mouth of the cup and the edge of the lid, the beads acting as solder bases for the user's fingers/when the package is opened. The lid can be formed by connecting a discoid centre 6 and a surrounding frame 7 and by equipping the frame with a mouth roll by a technique corresponding to the manufacture of a cup formed of a bottom 4 and a mantle 3 connected to this.

Abstract: The invention relates to an encapsulated blister package, which is especially a medicine package containing tablets (8) or pills. The package has the flat outer casing (1), most preferably made of cardboard, and the inner part (2) partly extractable from it, the inner part comprising the disc (7) formed as a blister package moutned rotatably onto the base (5). The base has an outlet opening or similar so that the tablet that has been brought to the opening by rotating the disc, can be pressed out of the disc and removed from the package through the opening.

Abstract: The invention is related to methods for manufacturing liquid-tight and gas-tight packaging board and a package, and products provided according to the said methods. According to the invention, a polymerizing reaction mixture is spread on paper or a board base of paperboard or cardboard, the mixture containing at least one silicon compound forming an inorganic, chain or crosslinked polymeric backbone containing alternating silicon and oxygen atoms, and at least one reactive, organic compound forming organic side chains and/or crosslinks in the polymeric backbone. The reaction mixture may form a colloidal solution in which, along with the polymerization, gelling takes place, whereupon the thus created gel is dried, densified and cured to form a liquid-tight and gas-tight layer of coating.
