Patents Assigned to Stora Feldmuhle AG
  • Patent number: 6207015
Abstract: Raw materials useable in the manufacture of paper, cardboard and carton are recovered from waste sludge. After precipitation of the coarse particles, the sludge is centrifuged to remove black particles and then divided by fractional screening into its fiber, filler, pigment and agglomerate components. The agglomerate component is shear-treated and again fractionated, while the fibers, fillers and pigments, following further treatment if necessary, are fed to their points of reuse.

  • Patent number: 5952091
Abstract: A web printing paper, including a coating base paper which contains mineral filler and at least one of wood pulp and cellulose as fiber components. The coating base paper has a grammage of 30 to <58 g/m.sup.2, and a filler content, relative to its grammage, equal to 15 to 35% by weight. The coating base paper selectively contains, in addition to the at least one of wood pulp and cellulose, up to <50% by weight recycled fibers, all weight parts adding up to 100% by weight. The printing paper further includes a coating applied to both sides of the base paper by a film press so as to absorb printing ink. The coating contains pigment and binder. The coating on each side of the base paper has a grammage of 2 to 12 g/m.sup.2, and the pigment of the coating has a grain size, 40 to 60% by weight, of <2 .mu.m.

  • Patent number: 5795393
Abstract: A coating edge limiter for a coating arrangement with a short dwell time. Color is fed under pressure into a coating chamber formed by a backing roll around which a paper web is guided, a barrier wall, a doctor blade element and sealing blocks located at both ends of the coater. A formatting plate almost completely covers an application zone between the doctor blade element and the barrier wall so that an edge region of the web is sharply delineated and kept completely free of color. In each of the sealing blocks water is supplied via channels to depressions thereby forming a pressure cushion. This pressure cushion prevents the pressurized color in the coating chamber from flowing out laterally and ensures that the formatting plate is pressed flatly against the web. The coating edge limiter thereby makes it possible to establish very precisely the width of the web to be produced.

  • Patent number: 5769353
Abstract: A process for initiating a premature roll change of a web to be unwound from a roll wound on a spool, the process including the steps of measuring temperature at an end of the roll in a zone up to 150 mm away from a surface of the spool in a radial direction during a time that the roll has between 100% and 60% of its fully wound weight, using a non-contact measuring device, determining a radial distance from the spool surface when a temperature difference.gtoreq.0.5.degree. C. is found between temperature measurement locations in the zone and cooler adjacent areas, and storing the determined distance for triggering a signal that initiates a replacement of the roll when that distance is reached.

  • Patent number: 5753077
Abstract: In a web printing paper the base paper comprises of more than 50% wt. de-inked recycled fibers, 10-35% wt. mineral filler and the remainder being wood-pulp and/or cellulose and has a weight of 30 to less than 60 g/m.sup.2. The base paper is coated with a coating having a weight of 2 to 8 g per m.sup.2 and side and the binder proportion is no more than 15% wt. in relation to the coating pigment.

  • Patent number: 5597612
Abstract: A process is disclosed for manufacturing paper web containing a CF layer for pressure sensitive recording paper. In order to ensure full sizing, the paper web is subjected to intermass sizing and the coating ink containing color acceptors constituted of color-reactive, mineral pigments is applied with a coating device in which the paper web is guided between two transfer rollers separated by a gap or set at minimal pressure. One of the transfer rollers applies volumetrically pre-dosed coating ink by means of a rotary and driven surface-profiled doctor bar, forming the CF layer on one side of the paper web, and the other transfer roller at the same time applies a volumetrically pre-dosed aqueous solution on the other side of the paper web, also by means of a rotary driven surface-profiled doctor bar. The amount of color-reactive pigment in the dried CF-layer comprises between 3.5 and 5 g/m.sup.2.

  • Patent number: 5439558
Abstract: A print substrate, in particular paper, has a coat on one or both sides, which contains ungelatinized starch granules and kaolin as coating pigment and possibly one or more additional mineral pigments and binder and wherein the content of the starch granules is 2 to 25% by weight with respect to the total coating pigment; the binder proportion--with respect to the total pigment--is less than 12% by weight calculated as parts by weight when dry; the gloss of the coat after calendaring is greater than 40% as measured at an angle of 75.degree. according to Lehmann; the mineral coating pigment comprises at least 60% by weight of kaolin and the mineral pigment component and starch granules make up the remainder to 100% by weight of the total coating pigment.
