  • Patent number: 6014928
Abstract: A description is given of a screen product which in particular is suitable for use in flat screen or rotary screen printing. This screen product comprises an electroformed, essentially nickel-containing metal body which determines two essentially parallel faces, and which is provided with a large number of openings, each opening extending from one of the two faces to the other, and each opening having a side wall in common with the metal. In order to prevent light scattering by the screen product, at least a part of at least one of the two faces of the screen product or the side walls of the openings is made radiation-absorbing. A method for increasing the radiation-absorbing capacity of a screen product is also described.

  • Patent number: 5939172
Abstract: A screen material is described which is formed by cladding, using electroplating, a structure composed of strands or fibers. The structure may incorporate a knit, woven or nonwoven material or, alternatively, of strands or fibres welded together, wound strands or fibers. The structure may be subjected to a calendering operation. The screen material, after having been provided, if required, with an electrically conductive cladding, is provided with a metal layer in an electroplating operation under conditions in which an overgrowth ratio R greater than 1 is achieved. The invention also describes a method for manufacturing such a screen material which preferably involves making use of an electroplating bath for depositing a metal cladding on a starting material in which a chemical compound is present which increases the overgrowth ratio R. The method can be implemented using a variety of conditions which can lead to an overgrowth ratio R of a desired value.

  • Patent number: 5584983
Abstract: A method for the production of metal foam with high specific surface area is disclosed. A foam material which may be either conductive or nonconductive is provided. If the material is nonconductive, an electrically conductive covering layer is formed. The electrically conductive foam material is then electrolytically coated with nickel from a nickel plating bath. The bath includes at least one unsaturated organic second class brightener in an amount effective to promote preferential growth of nickel onto the foam material such that the value of the growth ratio R, defined by the total of the growth of metal onto the foam material in the direction of the preferential growth divided by the total of the growth of metal in a direction perpendicular to the direction of the preferential growth, is greater than one. The nickel plating may be carried out using pulse current. The bath liquid may be flowed through the openings of the foam substrate in one or more directions during the deposition.

  • Patent number: 5368952
Abstract: A metal suspension half-cell for an accumulator is described, in which the metal suspension, consisting of metal particles and an electrolyte, has been stabilised by adding additive particles which comprise a ceramic material which promotes chain formation in the suspension. As a result of the said chain-forming ceramic material, the metal suspension can be operated essentially stationary within the half-cell. Diverse special geometries of the half-cell are illustrated. As a result of the composition of the suspension and the cell design, an increased cyclability of the cell is obtained. A method for operating a metal suspension half-cell according to the invention during charging/discharging thereof and a metal suspension accumulator which comprises a half-cell according to the invention are also described.
