The intermediate layer is of a different compressibility and provides for de-coupling of the layers in an oblique impact.

Abstract: A helmet has a memory foam member and an impact dissipating member in moulded together. A process for forming such a helmet is also provided. A helmet has a memory foam member and an impact-dissipating member. The memory foam member is formed from a memory foam material and the impact-dissipating member is formed from an impact-dissipating material and has an impact-dissipating member inner side and an impact-dissipating member outer side opposite the impact-dissipating member inner side. The memory foam member is in-moulded with the impact-dissipating member. Also, a process for forming a helmet by in-moulding a memory foam member and an impact-dissipating material together. The in-moulding process permanently binds the memory foam member outer side to the impact-dissipating member inner side.

The outer layer covers the inner layer and includes an outer layer attachment member and an outer layer lock member. The sun visor includes a shade member and a sun visor attachment member connected to and distal to the shade member. The sun visor attachment member is adapted to rotatably engage with the outer layer attachment member to form a fulcrum. The sun visor lock member is adapted to operatively engage the outer layer lock member so as to releasably lock the sun visor into a fixed position. The sun visor lock member and the outer layer lock member operatively engage so as to allow the sun visor to be releasably locked into one of a plurality of fixed positions. the sun visor attachment member and the outer layer attachment member rotatably engage via a snap fit fastener.

Abstract: A strap (14,15) used in a strap adjuster for a protective helmet is provided. The strap adjuster comprises a case (10) comprising a front face (11), a rear face (12) and a slot (13) therebetween. Within the slot (13) are received the ends of the two straps (14,15), each of which is slotted and defines on one side of the slot (13) a respective rack gear profiles (16,17). A control knob (18) is rotatable in the case (10) and has one or more pinion gear profiles to engage the respective rack gear profiles (16,17). Each strap (14,15) has a mid-portion comprising a plurality of thin strap portions (21) arranged side-by-side and separated by long apertures (22) in a direction transverse to the length of the strap (14,15). The apertures (22) define the thin strap portions (21) of increased flexibility, and may he at least partially out of the plane of the strap (14,15).
