Abstract: The present invention for the first time discloses a method and a kit of parts for treating a periodontal disease, such as periimplantitis, gingivitis, periodontitis and/or periimplant mucositis, caused by microorganisms that colonize a tooth and/or implant surface at, above and/or below the gingival margin, and which reside in a biofilm either subgingival and/or supragingival, characterized by employing a surgical process leading to substantively removing, destroying, killing and/or disrupting and/or inhibiting growth and/or regrowth of a pathogenic biofilm at a site of a microbial infection in a patient suffering from a periodontal disease.
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a composition for the conditioning of a dental mineralized surface and/or a dental implant and/or for increasing the hydrophilicity of a dental implant having a metal containing surface. The composition comprises EDTA in a concentration of 21-55% by weight and having a pH of 9.0 or above. The high pH of the composition allows more EDTA to be dissolved and the composition is useful for the conditioning of mineralized dental surfaces and/or surfaces of dental implants. The composition of the invention may thus be used for the conditioning of mineralized dental surfaces and dental implant surfaces in order to remove e.g. biofilm, debris, bacteria, bacterial toxins etc and/or for increasing the hydrophilicity of an implant having a metallic surface. The invention is also directed to a kit comprising the composition of the invention and a device to apply the composition to a surface in need of conditioning.
Abstract: A torque limiting device for use with a dental drive tool including a housing defining a rotation axis and having a bore concentric with the rotation axis and a torque limiting insert. The housing has a recess for housing at least part of the torque limiting insert. The torque limiting insert includes a fixing region held within the housing and a spring region extending from the fixing region and including a locking catch protruding into the bore. The locking catch is aligned with the recess so it can be moved radially outwards into the recess in to a disengaged position. The locking catch is arranged to engage with the dental drive tool when the tool is introduced in the bore to transmit a torque applied to the housing and to deflect into the disengaged position against the force of the spring region when a predefined torque limit is reached.
