Abstract: A portable light including thermal protection comprises a thermally-conductive heat sink having a heat dissipating part and a heat collecting part; a light source having a surface thermally coupled to the heat collecting part of the heat sink; an electronic circuit for controlling the light source, wherein the electronic circuit is adjacent the heat collecting portion of the heat sink; and a thermally-conductive material between the electronic circuit and the heat collecting part of the heat sink for providing a thermally conductive path therebetween.
Abstract: A flashlight with a rotatable lamp head is provided. The lamp head pivots about two cylindrical coaxial electrical connectors. The lamp head also includes reflector having a major parabolic reflective surface and a minor reflective parabolic surface. The reflector is configured so that the minor reflective surface is nested within the major reflective surface. The flashlight also includes a series of fluid-tight seals to insure that the flashlight is waterproof. In addition, a flapper valve is provided to function as a one-way valve allowing the release of gases produced by the use of the batters, and preventing fluid from entering the flashlight. A battery charger is also provided to recharge a battery pack for the flashlight.

Abstract: A flashlight has a head assembly with a charging member extending laterally to an external charging contact and a barrel slidably housing a battery assembly. A tail assembly having a slidable actuating member is positioned in abutment with the battery assembly. A connection module is positioned in the head assembly, an has a continuous connection means for maintaining a continuous electrical connection between the charging member and the battery, and also intermittent connection mechanism for intermittenly connecting the battery with the lamp.
Abstract: In a battery-operated apparatus comprising a load, a battery and a switch in circuit for selectively energizing the load: a comparator compares a potential produced by the battery and a reference potential for de-energizing the load when the battery potential is below a predetermined potential.

Abstract: An electrical switch comprises a dielectric substrate and a deformable contact member overlying the dielectric substrate for contacting an electrical conductor on the dielectric substrate when deformed. The contact member is electrically connected to another electrical conductor on the dielectric substrate, and may have plural contact fingers. A mounting may be provided for mounting the switch using a fastener, a tie member or an adhesive member.

Abstract: A mounting arrangement for a light or other object includes a clamping arrangement, or a keying arrangement, or both a clamping and a keying arrangement for mounting to different mounting rails having different keying features. The clamping arrangement includes a fixed clamp member and a movable clamp member that is movable towards and away from the fixed clamp member and is biased towards the fixed clamp member, so as to grip a mounting rail therebetween. The keying arrangement employs interchangeable keying members that may be disposed in a recess of the light or other object and that may have different keying features for use with mounting rails having corresponding keying features.
Abstract: A flashlight comprises a flashlight body and an annular ring slideably fitting on the flashlight body, and means for fixing the annular ring at a desired position on the flashlight body. The means may include a set screw. An optional and/or removable clip may be disposed longitudinally on the flashlight body between the flashlight body and the annular ring.
Abstract: A flashlight is provided having a housing, a reflector and a light source, such as an LED. Preferably, an alignment structure is provided for aligning the LED with the focal axis of the reflector. For instance, the LED may be fixed to a circuit board, and the flashlight may include an alignment element configured to mate with the LED to position the LED at a pre-determined position. Alternatively, the LED may be electrically connected with a circuit board, and the circuit board my include an opening for receiving the LED to position the LED at a pre-determined position.
Abstract: A light source assembly comprises a dielectric body having an exterior surface and a light source mounted coaxially proximate an end of the dielectric body. A first electrical lead of the light source provides an electrical lead at an end of the dielectric body distal the solid state light source and a second electrical lead thereof provides an electrical lead at the periphery of the dielectric body. A resilient member improves electrical contact of the second electrical lead at the periphery.

Abstract: A battery powered flashlight is provided having a primary lamp assembly providing a high powered light source in a forward direction, and a back light providing a lower powered light source in a rearward facing direction. Preferably, the flashlight includes a hollow housing having a back wall into which one or more apertures are formed for receiving one or more back light elements.
Abstract: A switch as for a flashlight selectively connects, for example, a solid state light source and a battery in the flashlight in circuit for causing the solid state light source to produce light. The switch comprises a pushbutton and a metal contact having a periphery that selectively contacts a housing, and a spring. Pressing the pushbutton moves the pushbutton and the metal contact to contact the housing. The metal contact may include a feature for centering the metal contact with respect to the pushbutton and thus with respect to the housing end. The switch may be disposed in a tail cap attached to a flashlight housing.
