Patent number: 8417558Abstract: A computer implemented method of improving the performance of a viral marketing program comprises exposing, via a computer network, a first offered incentive to a first plurality of users. A first consumer viral marketing action is to be completed to receive the first incentive. First data indicative of the first plurality of users' progress toward achieving the first action is collected thereby providing a likelihood of the first incentive obtaining an objective. A second incentive is exposed to a second plurality of users. A second consumer viral marketing action is to be completed to receive the second incentive. Second data indicative of the second plurality of users' progress toward achieving the second marketing action is collected thereby providing a likelihood of the second incentive obtaining the objective. The first and second data is compared using a metric to identify which incentive is more likely to obtain the objective.Type: GrantFiled: March 19, 2012Date of Patent: April 9, 2013Assignee: StrongMail Systems, Inc.Inventors: Ryan Michael Koonce, James Newton Calhoun, Jr., David Allen Bell, Sage Bray

Patent number: 8402100Abstract: E-mail system which organizes e-mails into queues based on their locations and characterizes the e-mails. Metadata, indicative of the e-mail, is appended to the e-mail. The queues are organized based on the metadata, and processed. The metadata is always stored in local storage; and the message body may be stored in local storage, or in remote storage, depending on how long it will be until the message is sent. A special server manages whether the information is stored in local or remote storage.Type: GrantFiled: April 12, 2010Date of Patent: March 19, 2013Assignee: StrongMail Systems, Inc.Inventors: Frank Addante, Tim McQuillen, Junior Shaitan

Patent number: 8386638Abstract: Computer program products, apparatus, and methods for processing digital messages to recipients at destination domains is provided. A plurality of profiles are established, each profile for handling digital to a specific domain or set of domains. A request to process a plurality of outbound digital messages is handled by, for each given digital message, processing the given digital message by (i) determining a destination domain for digital messages, (ii) reading a profile for the determined destination domain for the digital messages and (iii) based on at least one parameter set in the profile: (a) sending the given digital message to the determined destination domain in accordance with the profile when permitted by the at least one parameter set in the profile, or (b) not sending the digital message to the determined destination domain when required by the at least one parameter set in the profile.Type: GrantFiled: April 30, 2012Date of Patent: February 26, 2013Assignee: StrongMail Systems, Inc.Inventors: Tim McQuillen, Tulsi Ram Mayala

Patent number: 8316090Abstract: Computer program products apparatus, and methods for distributing encoded messages to one or more recipients. In one aspect, an electronic request is received using an e-mail protocol. The electronic request includes instructions for accessing one or more destinations corresponding to the recipients and logic for accessing data relating to the recipients. The data relating to recipients is obtained using the logic for accessing the data in the electronic request. For each respective recipient, a message body of a message corresponding to said respective recipient is formatted using the data relating to the respective recipient thereby constructing the one or more encoded messages. The one or more encoded messages are then distributed to the recipients using the one or more corresponding destinations.Type: GrantFiled: January 25, 2006Date of Patent: November 20, 2012Assignee: StrongMail Systems, Inc.Inventor: Frank Addante

Patent number: 8140376Abstract: A system and method for improving the performance of a viral marketing program develops a plurality of trials of a viral marketing program having a business objective with each trial having a plurality of attributes at least one of which differs from an attribute of the other of the plurality of trials, exposes a first plurality of users to a first trial and a second plurality of users to a second trial, collects data indicative of the users response to the trial to which they were exposed that is reflective of the likelihood of the trial obtaining the business objective, compares the data to identify a trial more likely to achieve the business objective than a non-identified trial and continues to utilize the identified trial in the viral marketing program while ceasing use of a non-identified trial.Type: GrantFiled: September 12, 2007Date of Patent: March 20, 2012Assignee: Strongmail Systems, Inc.Inventors: Ryan Michael Koonce, James Newton Calboun, Jr., David Allen Bell, Sage Bray

Patent number: 7720911Abstract: An e-mail processing system that preferably operates solely within nonpersistent storage such as random access memory. Queues of e-mails are formed within the random access memory, where each queue includes a pointer to personalized information about the e-mail, directed to a specific domain. In order to send the e-mail, a channel is opened to the domain, and while open, e-mails within the queue are sent. A special recovery agent periodically takes snapshots of the state of processing within the system. Since the processing is occurring within nonpersistent storage, a failure within the system can be recovered by using the snapshots to recover where each email is processing. In one aspect, the feed rate to the other e-mail servers is adjusted based on the rate of those e-mail servers. Also, the system asynchronously looks up information such as DNS information while it is processing information for other e-mails.Type: GrantFiled: February 11, 2004Date of Patent: May 18, 2010Assignee: StrongMail Systems, Inc.Inventors: Frank Addante, Tim McQuillen
