Publication number: 20140128926Abstract: A system and method for pressing fragments of a fracture against each other includes a compression device comprising a hollow shaft. The system has an inner engagement portion for engaging an outer feature of a screw head arranged at a distal end of the shaft. The system has a supporting element with a contact surface adapted to abut on one of the fragments, and a joint is provided between the supporting element and the hollow shaft. The joint is formed so as to allow a rotation of the shaft about a longitudinal axis thereof relative to the supporting element. Additionally, the joint is formed to allow a pivot movement of the supporting element relative to the shaft.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 6, 2013Publication date: May 8, 2014Applicant: Stryker Trauma AGInventors: Fernando Ferreira Monteiro Pacheco, Guillaume Bugnard

Publication number: 20140107710Abstract: Disclosed herein are cable plugs for securing surgical cable to a bone plate. The cable plugs each have a cable retaining member and a fastening member. The cable retaining members each have a receiving portion adapted to receive a portion of the surgical cable therein. The cable retaining members are first coupled to the fastening members prior to securing the cable plug to the bone plate. The cable retaining member may rotate with respect to the fastening member about 270° along a longitudinal axis of the cable plug when the cable retaining member is coupled to the fastening member. When securing the surgical cable to the bone plate, the cable retaining member is rotated about the longitudinal axis of the cable plug until an axis of the receiving portion is parallel to an axis of the surgical cable. The surgical cable is then placed within the receiving portion, tightened, and crimped to secure the bone plate to the bone.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 11, 2012Publication date: April 17, 2014Applicant: Stryker Trauma AGInventors: Aaron Forderer, Nicolas Hainard, Axel Bernhard Cremer

Publication number: 20140066994Abstract: A system for bending a surgical device is disclosed in which the system may include a bending apparatus having a housing with a series of posts received therein. In some embodiments, one of the series of posts may be selectively movable within an elongate slot in the housing, while another of the series of posts may be radially movable. Movement of the radially movable post may serve to bend a surgical device about at least one of the other remaining posts. A tool may also be provided with the system for interacting with a lever and causing the radially movable post to move radially. An alternate apparatus for bending a surgical device is also disclosed, as are methods of bending a surgical device using the aforementioned system.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 8, 2013Publication date: March 6, 2014Applicant: STRYKER TRAUMA AGInventors: Robert Dominik, Jan Heinsohn, Gennaro A. Publication number: 20140012335Abstract: Disclosed is a self-tapping bone screw, in particular for use as a compression screw or a locking screw for an implant. The bone screw has screw shank, which has a front tip, a cutting region, an intermediate region, and a rear head region. In a transition region including mutually adjoining parts of the cutting region and the intermediate region, the root diameter of the screw shank in the cutting region is greater than the root diameter of the screw shank in the intermediate region, and the outside diameter of the screw shank is constant.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 9, 2013Publication date: January 9, 2014Applicant: STRYKER TRAUMA AGInventors: Alexis Christen, Zeljko Markovic

Patent number: 8603091Abstract: The invention relates to a pelvic or scapular bone plate implant having a planar or curved outer frame portion. The frame has a surface which can be aligned with a surface of a bone to which the bone plate is to be implanted. The plate has a flap portion, the outer frame portion at least partially surrounds the flap portion such that the bone contacting surface the flap portion is located within the outer boundary of the frame portion. The flap portion is connected with the outer frame portion via a material interconnection which allows the flap to be bent with respect to the frame. A method for implanting such a bone plate implant is also taught.Type: GrantFiled: March 4, 2011Date of Patent: December 10, 2013Assignee: Stryker Trauma AGInventors: Christian Lutz, Jakob Kemper

Patent number: 8425521Abstract: A tensioning device for surgical elements is described. The tensioning device comprises a fixation device, a clamping device, a spring device, and a force deflecting device that interacts with the clamping device. The force deflecting device is designed to convert the spring force exerted by the spring device on the clamping device into a clamping force exerted by the clamping device on the surgical element.Type: GrantFiled: January 26, 2011Date of Patent: April 23, 2013Assignee: Stryker Trauma AGInventors: Axel Bernhard Cremer, This Aebi

Publication number: 20120271308Abstract: A surgical clamping device is provided for receiving distal ends of handles having bone attachment members disposed thereon in a recess disposed in the surgical clamping device. When an adjustment mechanism is in a first state, the distal ends of the handles are able to pivot and, optionally, to move axially within the recess of the surgical clamping device. When the adjustment mechanism is placed into a second state by adjusting the adjusting mechanism, the surgical clamping device applies a clamping force to the distal ends of the handles such that they are fixed within the recess of the surgical clamping device.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 28, 2009Publication date: October 25, 2012Applicant: STRYKER TRAUMA AGInventors: Robert Dominik, This Aebi
