  • Patent number: 5117905
Abstract: In order to be able to use materials of higher strength without the danger of cracks arising during deformation, it is proposed, with reference to a heat exchanger having lamella fins, which are held at a distance from and parallel to each other by shaped collars on the lamella fins and which are penetrated by pipes running parallel to each other in passages through the collars, the internal diameter of the passage in each case matching the external diameter of the pipe and at least partially contacting the external periphery of the pipe, while at the same time exactly preserving the distances between the lamella fins, that tongues are distributed on the periphery of the punched rim of the passage, the free ends of the tongues are bent at an angle to the pipe projecting through the passage, and that these bent tongues provide space locating surfaces for the adjacent parallel lamella fin. Also disclosed is a heat exchanger assembly.

  • Patent number: 5099654
Abstract: A method for controlling a motor vehicle air conditioning system is described. The motor vehicle air conditioning system comprises a refrigeration circuit including a refrigerant compressor, a condenser, an evaporator and a throttle device arranged upstream of the evaporator. The condenser is associated with a ventilating fan and the evaporator is associated with a blower. The compressor capacity, the condenser capacity and the evaporator capacity are directly or indirectly sensed by sensor means and supplied as electrical variables to an electronic control circuit which logically combines these input signals and generates output signals in dependence on at least two of these capacity values and including further parameters. The control circuit acts on electrically controllable acturators for influencing the compressor capacity, the condenser capacity and/or the evaporator capacity.

  • Patent number: 5007180
Abstract: In the case of a method of separating condensable harmful substances and solid particles from the process gas or used air from particularly a textile finishing plant such as for example a drier or a coating plant, for example in the paper or synthetic plastics industry, the used air is pre-filtered, cooled and passed through a mechanical final filtering apparatus. So that a considerable extent of separation from the used air is possible already at the pre-filtering stage, the warm used air is pre-filtered by being cooled to below the dewpoint of the condensable harmful substances and dispersed solid particles. The resultant condensate which contains impurities is extracted.

  • Patent number: 4891257
Abstract: A carrier matrix wound of a carrier strip having undulations in its transverse direction has deflections of the carrier strip, said deflections being arranged in planes. During the winding process, the deflections are created by the insertion of deflection pins between the corresponding winding layers. The deflections pins, in this case, are inserted between the winding layers as a function of the desired cross-section of the carrier matrix so that after the winding process and after the removal of the deflection pins, the carrier matrix can be inserted into a sheath that has the desired cross-section of the carrier matrix. By combining several winding bodies of this type into one carrier matrix, arbitrary cross-sections of carrier matrices can be produced, particularly cross-sections having concave archings. During the making process, the deflection pins are fitted through the corresponding bores of two winding disks that are connected with one another in a torsionally fixed way.

  • Patent number: 4881595
Abstract: In a clamping connection between a plastic water tank equipped with at least one flange and a heat-exchanger tube sheet carrying a deformable edge region, an elastic sealing device being retained therebetween under prestress, and the deformable edge region, before its deformation, extends parallel to the outer contour of the flange and, after its deformation to make the clamping connection, it has first partial regions deformed in an approximately wave-shaped manner over the flange of the plastic water tank, and non-deformed further partial regions extending parallel to the outer contour of the flange. The first partial regions deformed over the flange of the plastic water tank make a positive connection, in which the lower edges of the deformed first partial regions rest on the top side of the flange under prestress. To make deformation easier, the deformable first partial regions are cut free parallel to and at a distance from an outer edge at the height of the flange top edge.

  • Patent number: 4852363
Abstract: In an air conditioner for a motor vehicle, which, for the purpose of contling the humidity, has in the ir duct suitable devices, controlled by a microcomputer. The microcomputer receives values for outside temperature, inside temperature and inside humidity, measured by sensors. From the values for outside temperature, inside temperature and inside humidity, the microcomputer determines the threshold humidity (l.sub.thresh) as the ratio of the saturated vapor pressure (P.sub.S) inside at the pane and the saturated vapor pressure (P.sub.i) of the inside air. If this difference (.DELTA.l) between threshold humidity (l.sub.thresh) and inside humidity (l.sub.i) falls below a stipulated value (x), dehumidification devices are actuated. If the stipulated value is exceeded, humidification devices are actuated.

  • Patent number: 4667791
Abstract: Disclosed is a fluid friction clutch which comprises an input shaft, a primary disk connected to the shaft, and a secondary drive part, i.e., the clutch housing. The primary disk rotates in a work chamber arranged in the clutch housing and includes a reserve chamber in its interior. A fluid stream, which circulates between the work chamber on the secondary side and the reserve chamber on the primary side, is controlled via a valve attached to the primary disk. The valve is actuated via a tappet arranged coaxially in the input shaft. The orifice of the valve is arranged on the end face of the primary disk, and the associated valve closure element is located in the interior of the reserve chamber. An overflow orifice is present on the circumference of the primary disk in conjunction with a baffle, whereby pumping of the fluid from the work chamber into the reserve chamber is achieved. This fluid friction clutch is used, preferably, as the fan drive means for a radiator in motor vehicles.

  • Patent number: 4665051
Abstract: A carrier matrix for a catalytic reactor for the purification of the exhaust gas of internal combustion engines, comprising a flat foil and a corrugated foil arranged in alternating layers. Exhaust gas flows through the ducts formed by the corrugations of the corrugated foil and the flat foil surface. The corrugations have a plurality of segments fluidly connected behind one another in flow direction, but are transversely staggered with respect to flow direction. This staggered arrangement increases the turbulence of the gas flowing through the ducts, thereby increasing the effectiveness of the matrix. The matrix can be manufactured in a simple manner yet permits a good utilization of the catalyst materials coated on the foils.

  • Patent number: 4658671
Abstract: Disclosed is a fluid friction clutch, wherein the force is transmitted from the driving to the driven member by means of the shear forces of a viscous medium located in gaps between the working surfaces of the driving and the driven sides. The transmittable force may be regulated by means of the degree of filling of the gap with the viscous medium as a function of external parameters. A fluid friction clutch of this type is characterized in that the drive and the driven members are elements of an at least three-member planetary transmission, wherein the individual elements of the planetary transmission engage each other through gaps, which in turn serve to receive the viscous medium, thereby effecting the transmittal of the force. It is possible with this clutch to obtain selected gear ratios between the driving and the driven members, in particular stepping up to higher speeds, even though the force is transmitted by fluid friction only.

  • Patent number: 4650045
Abstract: Disclosed is a method and apparatus for controlling the output speed of a fluid friction clutch. The fluid friction clutch comprises a work chamber, in which a drive disk rotates, and a reservoir. A valve controls the circulation of a viscous medium between the work chamber and the reservoir. The output rotational speed is thus dependent on the filling ratio of the work chamber. The valve is actuated as a function of at least one control parameter by means of a stepping motor connected with the clutch. The control parameter is preferably the temperature of the cooling medium of an internal combustion engine. The rotational output of the stepping motor is converted to a linear motion to actuate the valve lever by means of a spindle drive.
