Abstract: To provide an apparatus for manufacturing a casting, in which sealing can be formed between joint surfaces of a mold without using any packing material. An apparatus for manufacturing a casting comprising a mold split into at least two mold parts designed so as to define a cavity, an introduction port provided at one end of the mold for introducing molten metal into the cavity, and an exhaust port provided at the other end of the mold for exhausting air in the cavity; characterized by further comprising a groove which is provided around a portion defining the cavity in at least one of joint surfaces of the at least two mold parts so as to connect the introduction port to the exhaust port.
Abstract: A process and an apparatus for producing a composite of a particulate inorganic material, such as Shirasu balloons, and a metal, such as aluminum, in four inventive aspects. The composite is produced successively by the process steps comprising charging a mold cavity of a mold with the particulate inorganic material to form an aggregation of the particles, injecting a molten metal into the aggregation through a molten metal permeable refractory partition wall from a molten metal storage vessel, forwarding the resulting aggregation impregnated with the molten metal, cooling the impregnated aggregation to solidify and taking the solidified molded composite out of the mold. The composite according to the present invention is stout, light weighing, non-inflammable and easily processible and exhibits high dimensional stability and uniform distribution of the material properties, so that it can be used for construction and architecture purposes.
Abstract: A discontinuously casting copper alloy mold is provided. The mold consists of an Ni-plating layer formed on an inner surface of a mold blank formed of copper or a copper alloy. An intermediate layer is provided of a spray coating of a powdered material consisting of two or more of Ni, Cr and Co and 0.1% to 1.0% by weight of Y.
Abstract: A magnesium alloy for use in casting is disclosed herein, which contains zinc and a rare earth metal component and has a solidification temperature range of at most 50.degree. C. The magnesium alloy comprises 8.5 to 1.9 % by weight of a rare earth metal mixture consisting essentially of cerium and lanthanum as the rare earth metal component, 6.4 to 4.2% by weight of zinc, and the balance of magnesium, based on the total weight of the magnesium alloy.
Abstract: A powdered metal spray coating material comprises two or more of Ni, Cr and Co, and 0.1 to 1.0% by weight of Y based on the total weight of the spray coating material. If Co is present in this spray coating material, the content of Co is in a range of 20 to 40% by weight, and the balance is Ni and/or Cr. If Cr is present, the content of Cr is in a range of 15 to 30% by weight, and the balance is Ni and/or Co. Such powdered metal spray coating material is produced by melting and homogenizing starting metals in vacuum and forming them into a metal powder by a gas atomizer.
