  • Patent number: 4235369
Abstract: A plant for space heating and service-water heating, is comprised of a combination boiler and a heat pump. The boiler has a first water chamber adapted to be heated by a furnace and/or a heating insert, a second water chamber which communicates with the first chamber and which contains a heat-exchange surface for heating service water, and a third water chamber containing a heat-exchange surface (36, 36a, 38) for preheating cold service water. A circuit is connected to the third water chamber in the lowest water temperature zone, by means of which, when the heat pump is in operation, water can be fed to the condenser section of the heat pump and, after the water has heated up, be returned to the second water chamber. The third water chamber communicates at least with the second water chamber.

  • Patent number: 4234553
Abstract: To reduce the consumption of electricity, a portion of the deuterium-enriched water is stored during the winter while the remainder is used to produce hydrogen in the heavy water preparation plant. The stored deuterium-enriched water is then used in the summer with fresh water to produce hydrogen in the electrolyzer for delivery to the ammonia synthesizing plant. Surplus hydrogen is stored during the summer for subsequent use in the synthesizing plant during the next winter.

  • Patent number: 4232522
Abstract: A method and apparatus for the utilization of the waste heat of diesel engines, in which the waste heat is utilized in at least one vapor circuit to produce mechanical energy. To improve the waste heat utilization, the engine media containing the waste heat--e.g. the boost air and the exhaust gases--have heat additionally withdrawn from them during the pre-heating of the liquid working medium for the vapor circuit. The heat withdrawal is effected by liquid working medium from a heating system which is disposed in parallel relationship to the vapor circuit. The liquid working medium is introduced into the vapor circuit upstream of the pre-heater and is separated downstream thereof from the working medium which is to be evaporated.

  • Patent number: 4227265
Abstract: The bone implant is made from elements which have different mechanical properties and which are maintained out of contact from each other by means of a plastic member. The plastic member is disposed in and fills a gap formed by the implant elements. In addition, the plastic member has thin-walled extensions which are engaged in narrowing sections at the outer boundaries of the gap. These extensions guard against any creep in the plastics member under the forces imposed on the plastics member during stressing of the bone implant.

  • Patent number: 4223703
Abstract: A cam drive is used to control the picking movement of the picking lever. The cam drive includes a dam disc which has a recess (or projection) which causes the lever to accelerate at the beginning of a pick and thereafter imparts a prestress to the spring before the cam follower of the lever moves out of the cam disc recess. A dog clutch is used to permit movement of the cam disc relative to the uniformly rotating drive shaft.

  • Patent number: 4224120
Abstract: An electrolytic method of producing magnesium from magnesium chloride or carnallite produced, using calcium chloride. The calcium chloride is obtained from washing the hydrogen chloride and chlorine-containing waste gases obtained during the eletrolytic production of magnesium in milk of lime. The waste gases from the electrolysis unit are initially washed in a first absorption stage of the absorption process and then the obtained solids (magnesium hydroxide) are separated out for introduction into the third absorption stage to avoid blocking of the catalyst used in other stages of the absorption process.

  • Patent number: 4220200
Abstract: The heat exchanger system is used for gas-cooled high-temperature reactors. The high-temperature primary gas passes over a nest of blind tubes and thereafter flows over the tubes of a plurality of counter-current heat-exchangers disposed about a jacket encasing the blind tubes. The cool working gas flows into the system via a header and then passes through the tubes of the counter-current heat-exchangers before passing into the blind tubes. The working gas is exhausted via insert tubes within the blind tubes. The maximum temperatures on the heat exchanger surfaces occur at the closed ends of the blind tubes. However, these parts are substantially stress free in normal operation. The heat exchanger system may be constructed to permit ready disassembly of the insert tubes for inspection and replacement purposes.

  • Patent number: 4213953
Abstract: In order to replace the electricity required to drive the compressors of the apparatus, the nitrogen-producing means is supplied with a flow of a synthesis gas mixture from the synthesis circuit of the synthesizing plant. This gas mixture is burned with compressed air to form a mixture of water vapor and nitrogen. The water vapor is then condensed in a condensor and separated out for entry into an exchange tower of the monothermal isotope exchanger. The separated nitrogen is supplied together with hydrogen to form the synthesis gas mixture for the synthesizing plant. In addition, a steam circuit is connected with the condensor and has a steam turbine which produces work to drive the compressor for the air and the compressors used to compress the synthesis gas mixture.

  • Patent number: 4206342
Abstract: An electrode steam generator of the type wherein water is directed in free fall from a water distribution device in a stream onto an electrode to generate steam employs a horizontal dish-shaped water distribution device having a circular rim defining a dam to cause a shroud of water to fall onto an electrode of either S-shaped transverse cross section or onto an annular electrode having a convex curvature. The water distribution device receives water from a load proportional supply means and the water overflows the dam in unthrottled manner for all loads of the steam generator. The rim defining the dam is rounded in a downward direction with the curvature thereof extending in each radial plane up to a point with an approximately vertical tangent. A portion of the water falling on the electrode is diverted to provide a gap to allow the release of steam generated within the water shroud.
