Patent number: 4299273Abstract: A heat exchanger, especially recuperator for high temperature reactors, comprising a prismatic extending jacket and a multiplicity of elongated hexagonal elements arranged within the jacket and essentially parallel to the primary direction or extent thereof. Each hexagonal element has a central tube and heat transfer surfaces arranged about each central tube and extending axially up to the outer contour or outline of the corresponding hexagonal element. Both ends of the heat transfer surfaces are connected to collectors seated upon the central tube. Each hexagonal element is connected by spacers with its neighboring elements and with analogous spacers spatially fixedly arranged at the region of the jacket laterally bounding the heat exchanger. The spacers have play so that the spacing between the elements and between the elements and the spatially fixedly arranged spacers can alter by the amount of such play.Type: GrantFiled: September 8, 1978Date of Patent: November 10, 1981Assignee: Sulzer Brothers Ltd.Inventor: Heinz Fischli

Patent number: 4278619Abstract: The steam throttle valve has a number of water injection ducts distributed around the valve axis within a thin-walled hollow member which extends around the valve axis. A thin-walled water supply duct in a bore in the valve casing cover supplies water to the hollow member. The member is annular and is retained between two assembled parts of the valve, namely the cover and a valve cage. Constructing the ducts in this way obviates thermal stress cracking near them.Type: GrantFiled: August 21, 1980Date of Patent: July 14, 1981Assignee: Sulzer Brothers Ltd.Inventor: Edelbert Tiefenthaler

Patent number: 4230210Abstract: The pawl is retracted from the intermittently rotatable input shaft via a controlled abutment and a spring biased lever-mounted or piston-mounted roller. The abutment serves to start retraction of the pawl while the spring biased roller presses against a non-circular surface of the cam plate on which the pawl is mounted to complete removal of the pawl from the recess. The cam plate also has one or more cam surfaces for resetting the abutment after the pawl has been engaged in the shaft.Type: GrantFiled: July 19, 1978Date of Patent: October 28, 1980Assignee: Sulzer Brothers Ltd.Inventor: Otto Hintsch

Patent number: 4226638Abstract: Xylan-containing raw material which is very absorbent in the dry state, particularly one year old plants, is treated with an acid either by spraying or by an acid vapor to a limited extent. The extent of treatment is sufficient to permit hydrolysis of the xylan to xylose without complete saturation of the raw material. After hydrolysis, the raw material is washed in counterflow with water to extract the xylose solution. Washing may be accomplished in an extraction column or in a multi-step mixing arrangement.Type: GrantFiled: February 5, 1979Date of Patent: October 7, 1980Assignee: Sulzer Brothers Ltd.Inventor: Hansjorg Pfeiffer

Patent number: 4211277Abstract: The heat exchanger is constructed with a plurality of fittings which are disposed in the flow passage. Each fitting is constructed of at least two groups of webs with the webs of each group disposed in spaced parallel relation and in angular relation to the axis of the flow passage. Also, each group of webs is disposed in crossing relation to the webs of the other group. The ratio of web width (b) to diameter (d) of the flow passage is in the range of from 0.08 to 0.5 while the ratio of web spacing (m) to the diameter (d) is in the range of from 0.38 to 0.9. The fittings permit improved heat transfer with reduced pressure losses and a relatively small total area.Type: GrantFiled: May 23, 1978Date of Patent: July 8, 1980Assignee: Sulzer Brothers Ltd.Inventors: Grosz-Roll, Friedrich, Gerhard Schutz, Felix Streiff

Patent number: 4129141Abstract: The scram valve has a closing piston which can be controlled by a pilot valve in a pressure medium supply line to the closing piston. The pilot valve has a control piston which is spring biased on one side and connected on the other side with the flow of medium in the outlet spigot of the scram valve. Thus, should the pressure in the outlet spigot drop, the control piston moves to open the pressure medium supply line to the closing piston. In addition, this supply line is connected at the upstream end to the scram valve casing upstream of the valve seat so that the pressure of the medium flowing through the scram valve aids in the closing of this valve.Type: GrantFiled: March 15, 1976Date of Patent: December 12, 1978Assignee: Sulzer Brothers Ltd.Inventor: Ernst Vogeli

Patent number: 4111251Abstract: A vehicle traction device for rubber tired vehicular wheels, comprising a traction unit in the form of, for instance, a wire netting or chain equipped with a tightening mechanism for the traction unit and effective at least at one side of the wheel in the circumferential direction in the mounted condition of the vehicle traction device. This tightening mechanism comprises a tensioning element extending in the circumferential direction of the wheel and elastically constructed at least over a part of its extent and a tightening or tensioning wire which likewise extends in the circumferential direction. One end of the tightening wire is fastened to a body member of a tightening lock of the tightening mechanism and the other end is guided through a blocking element arranged in the tightening lock. When the vehicle traction device is mounted, the blocking element allows displacement of the tightening lock relative to the tightening wire only in the sense of shortening the effective length of the tightening wire.Type: GrantFiled: February 22, 1977Date of Patent: September 5, 1978Assignee: Sulzer Brothers Ltd.Inventor: Karl Bula
