Patents Assigned to Sulzer-Escher Wyss Limited
  • Patent number: 4970767
Abstract: A heatable controlled deflection roll contains hydrostatic support elements, each of which is supported in a pressure chamber and displaceable in a predetermined support or pressing direction. Heating of the rotatable roll shell or jacket of the controlled deflection roll is accomplished by infeeding a heated hydraulic heat carrier medium to bearing pockets of the hydrostatic support elements. This infeed of the heated hydraulic heat carrier medium is effected operationally separate from the provision of the pressure chamber with hydraulic pressurized fluid medium colder than the heated hydraulic heat carrier medium. The infeed of the hydraulic heat carrier medium and the infeed of the hydraulic pressurized fluid medium are thus accomplished via separate lines without thermal stressing of associated regulating valves and pumps and without a viscosity reduction of the hydraulic pressurized fluid medium, such viscosity reduction resulting in a loss of hydraulic pressurized fluid medium.

  • Patent number: 4681029
Abstract: During processing the soybeans are heated-up in a first of two successively arranged fluidized beds with a rapidity such that the hulls loosen or detach from the seeds and there is obtained a honogeneous heating of all of the soybeans. The heated-up soybeans may be directly conveyed into the second fludized bed where they are maintained in a heated condition and from which location they are infed in a heated state to a breaking or cracking mill where they are crushed or cracked and then to a flaking device for the subsequent flaking thereof. It is also possible to undertake along the conveying path from the first fluidized bed to the second fluidized bed a mechanical dehulling operation at the soybeans where the hulls are separated from the seeds and the seed portions are delivered into the second fluidized bed.

  • Patent number: 4611479
Abstract: In rolling metal foils, such as aluminum foils, especially very thin foils in the range down to 10 .mu.m, an improved uniformity of the foil thickness over the width of the foil sheet and, simultaneously, greater rolling speeds of the foil sheet are obtained by operating the rolling apparatus at a working point of the rolling force/material-working or line force/deformation characteristic curve which lies below the saturation region in which, while the material-working or deformation is nearly independent of the rolling or line force, the rolling or pulling speed is determined by other parameters and can not be varied. The thickness variations occurring under this selection of the working point and due to variations in the rolling or line force over the width of the rolls are compensated by regulating the rolling or line force such that the thickness reduction is constant over the width of the sheet or has a desired profile of variation.

  • Patent number: 4530227
Abstract: In a hydrostatic support member a piston which is axially movable in a pressurized fluid medium-supplied cylinder carries at the end thereof which is remote from the cylinder at least two bearing shoes which are axially movable independently of each other and which can be inclined relative to each other. There is achieved an automatic adaptation of the bearing or running surface of the support member to a counter surface changing in distance, shape and curvature even throughout a wide tolerance range. Such a support member is particularly suited for supporting the working rolls in a rolling mill, the diameter of which decreases during the operating or service life thereof, or for the support of back-up or supporting rolls backing-up the working rolls.

  • Patent number: 4480452
Abstract: In a rolling mill containing two work rolls and, as desired, supporting or back-up rolls, a rapid adjustment of the roll gap or nip with elimination of effects due to elastic elongation of the roll framework or stand is achieved in that when structuring at least one of the rolls as a controlled deflection roll containing a stationary roll support and a rotatable roll shell rotating thereabout, there is measured the position of the inner side or surface of the roll shell and an automatic control serves to adjust or readjust the roll gap or nip by causing changes in the pressure exerted upon the hydrostatic supporting or pressure elements placed intermediate the stationary roll support and the rotatable roll shell.

  • Patent number: 4427552
Abstract: In the method of automatically controlling a continuously operating pressure filter, into which a suspension to be separated is introduced and from which a separated filtrate and a formed product, i.e. a concentrated suspension, are removed, a tolerated constant operating pressure is maintained in a filtering chamber of the pressure filter. During operation the transmission or throughput capacity of the filtering walls in the filtering chamber gradually decreases with increasing operating time of the pressure filter. To maintain, during operation, a constant ratio of the proportions of dry solid and liquid in the product the flow of suspension and the flow of product are regulated during operation in accordance with the result of measuring the transmission or throughput capacity of the filtering walls. Each time when a decrease is detected each of the two flows is reduced by the same coefficient which is directly proportional to the respectively detected decrease in the transmission capacity.
