    Abstract: Terry cloth is woven by determining the pile warp yarn consumption during partial and full beat-ups of the pile warp on the basis of reference pattern data established for the terry cloth that is to be woven and which is used to control the payout of pile warp several picks in advance of the pick when a given length of pile warp yarn is actually needed. A feed-back arrangement compares the required length of pile warp for any given beat-up with the length of pile warp actually paid out and makes adjustments to the pile warp payout mechanism to compensate for any differences between them. As the length of pile warp yarn between a supply thereof and the fell in the weaving machine varies, due to differences between the instantaneous rates of yarn payout and consumption and/or other factors, a compensating roller in engagement with the pile warp yarn keeps its tension constant to assure the weaving of correctly sized terry loops.

    Abstract: The position of the fell of a cloth being woven on a weaving machine is sensed with a sensor needle that can be moved into and out of the cloth at a location proximate the fell during interruption of the weaving operation. Upon insertion of the sensor needle into the cloth, it moves with the cloth and therewith measures cloth displacement while the weaving machine is at rest. The sensor needle is attached to an actuation device capable of reciprocating the needle into and out of the cloth. The sensor needle is inductively coupled to a distance sensor which measures the needle displacement and therewith the displacement of the fell. In this manner, fell displacements caused, for example, by such factors as the relaxation of the run of cloth or of the warp yarn while the weaving machine is at rest can be measured and, before weaving is restarted, the position of the cloth, and therewith of the fell, can be corrected.

    Abstract: A series-shed weaving machine which has a machine frame. A warp beam and a weaving rotor are mounted on the frame and a reference plane extends between the axes of the warp beam and the rotor. A warp module is defined by a first subassembly, which includes an arrangement for warp run components of the machine, and a second subassembly, which includes an arrangement for cloth run components of the machine. It is mountable on the frame in first and second orientations in which one of the arrangements is on one side of the reference plane and the other one of the arrangements is on the other side of the reference plane and vice versa, respectively. Thus, the warp module can be installed on the weaving machine irrespective of how the warp beam and the cloth beam are arranged by laterally reversing the orientation of the warp module.

    Abstract: A method for weaving blemish-free smooth and terry fabric on a loom following a stoppage of the loom after it has woven a fabric fell which terminates in a last weft thread. The loom has a driven reed which reciprocates during normal weaving towards and away from the fell over a predetermined beat-up distance to successively position additional weft threads at predetermined target positions which assure a uniform, blemish-free fabric. Following a loom stoppage, the next weft yarn, for smooth fabric, and a plurality of next weft yarns, for terry fabric, are moved towards the last weft yarn over a compensated beat-up distance which is different from the predetermined beat-up distance to thereby position the next weft yarn at the desired target position relative to the least weft yarn of the fell to avoid the formation of fabric blemishes. Thereafter the reed is again moved over the predetermined beat-up distance during subsequent picks of the loom.

The association of the weft thread presenting devices (1) with the clamps (3a-3f) guarantees that there is no cross-over of the tracks of the weft threads, and the displacement of the clamps in the reference plane (6) does not influence these tracks. The weft thread is presented to the gripper in the reference plane (6), through matching of the movements of the clamp and of the associated weft thread presenting device (1) so that contact between the weft threads is prevented.

    Abstract: A cutter for use with looms has a positionally stable, rotating first cutting member (1) and a rotating second cutting member (2) which is moveable in relation to the first cutting member. The cutting members are connected in a frictional manner by an energy storing device (8) and rotate in opposite directions. The movable second cutting member (2) is mounted so that it can freely rotate on an axle (6), which is retained in a torsionally secure manner in membrane springs (11), which are elastically deformable in the axial direction in order to compensate for the lateral deflections of the rotating, positionally stable first cutting member (1), as a result of which the service life of the cutters is extended. The device is particularly suitable for a series shed loom because a high cutting rhythm can be achieved.

The members lie at least partially inside each other and they have opposing faces which define between them a rectilinear gap that has a curved cross-sectional shape. The second retention member is movably mounted on the first retention member so that the members can be moved with respect to each other in the longitudinal direction and so that the opposing faces provide the gap with a constant width in the longitudinal direction. The cross-sectional contour of the gap continuously increases in an effective direction of the thread holder, and the size of the gap is selected so that a weft thread inserted therein will be held by frictional force.

    Abstract: An insertion device for a series-shed loom having a rotor including combs (2) and shedding members for guiding the warp threads (3) over a predetermined angular region for shedding. The insertion device has a laying bar (10) with recesses (24) to guide the warp thread (3). It is moved to and fro parallel to the rotor by a drive mechanism for inserting the warp threads (3) into the shedding members on the rotor. Each laying bar (10) is associated with a guide bar (25) for deflecting the warp thread (3) for aligning it with the recess (24) in the laying bar (10). As a result the laying bar (10) is advantageously relieved of most of the warp thread tension and only directs the warp just parallel to the rotor. The laying bar (10) may consequently have a low mass.

The second part is connected to an operating mechanism (3) which pulls the second part (8) into an open position to thereby provide access to the transfer and connecting ducts (10, 11) for the weft yarns.

    Abstract: A series-shed loom for weaving a fabric from warp threads and weft threads. The loom has a rotor with reeds that comb through the warp threads and carries guide elements which define high points and low points. A multiplicity of elongated laying elements oriented parallel to the axis of rotation of the rotor guide the warp threads towards the rotor and insert them in the high and low points of the guide elements thereon. The laying elements are spaced from the rotor surface, they have a width in the direction of rotation, and warp threads which are adjacent in the fabric are guided over laying elements which are separated from each other by a pitch of at least twice the pitch between adjacent laying elements so that a point of intersection between the warp threads which are adjacent in the fabric is moved relatively further away from the laying elements and so that the point of intersection is further moved closer towards the rotor.

During a predetermined fraction of the weaving cycle which comprises the return of the weft yarn (1) into the stretched yarn path (1a), the compressed-air nozzle (6) is acted upon by compressed air so that the weft yarn (1) is additionally accelerated for a short time. After the return of the weft yarn (1) the compressed air feed to the compressed-air nozzle (1) becomes blocked during the remaining part of the weaving cycle.

    Abstract: A rapier tape gripper loom having inserter rapier tapes driving inserter and taker gripper heads has the warp threads only provide gripper head support over at least part of the insertion path. The insertion path occupies a width of the shed defined by the path of insertion and retraction of the gripper heads. It is the warp threads of the lower shed which act exclusively as direct support to the gripper heads over the part of the insertion path. During the insertion of the weft yarn, at least one bearer member supports the warp threads alongside of but not in the insertion path. This support effected by the at least one bearer member is outside the insertion path over which the gripper heads travel, leaving the warp threads as adjacently supported by the bearer member as the sole supporting members for the gripper heads.
