Patents Assigned to Sumitomo Pipe & Tube Co., Ltd.
  • Patent number: 7484393
Abstract: A profile mother pipe for hydraulic bulging of the present invention has a peripheral length whose outer diameter is gradually increased or decreased from one end to the other end in an axial direction. In the profile mother pipe, a holding portion whose peripheral length is increased toward a pipe end face on one end side can be formed on at least one end side and a parallel portion can be formed on the other end side where the holding portion is not formed. In a working apparatus and method in which the profile mother pipe is used, pressing working can be performed from the pipe end toward the axial direction, even in use of the profile mother pipe whose sectional shape is largely varied in the axial direction. Therefore, an expansion ratio larger than ever before can be obtained in a hydraulic bulged product to which hydraulic bulging is performed.

  • Patent number: 7464571
Abstract: According to the hydroforming method by the invention, when slots with the aspect ratio of 3 or more are pierced onto the bulge-formed portion made by the hydroforming, even the piercing can be carried out within a series of processing steps in the hydroforming, thereby eliminating the piercing operation by means of the cumbersome machining process such as milling and ensuring an excellent slot configuration. Thus, the hydroformed parts by the invention are best suited for the automobile parts etc. where various piercing operations are required, and the mold used for the hydroforming method by the invention can be widely employed for processing the automobile parts etc., whereby the invention can be applied for processing the parts in automobiles and industrial machineries as well.

  • Patent number: 7347486
Abstract: A metal tube for reinforcing car body, and a car body reinforcement according to the invention have a curved portion extending over the entire longitudinal length or a local longitudinal length, wherein, when the reinforcement is assembled such that the outer periphery of the curved portion is aligned substantially in the direction of impact applied to the car body, the load ramp gradient, the maximum load and the absorbed energy are all enhanced in case of a car body collision. Particularly, an increase in the load ramp gradient as for the load property at the start of deformation provides an excellent crash capacity in reinforcing the car body. Moreover, the metal tube and the reinforcement according to the invention are capable of satisfying the current requirements for much more crash capacity of the car body, along with both a weight reduction of the car body and a reduced manufacturing cost, and therefore they are applicable in a wide field for protecting occupants in an automobile.

  • Patent number: 6932936
Abstract: To provide manufacturing method for a double tube having a hole formed therein and a mold for implementing such method, which reduce the time required for manufacturing, do not leave shavings in the gap between the outer tube and the inner tube, and offer highly accurate hole positioning. The manufacturing method for a double tube having a hole formed therein pertaining to the present invention uses a mold in which a punch is located in at least one of the split mold halves that form the outer circumferential surface, an indentation is formed by drawing the punch into the mold, and fluid pressure is applied between the outer tube and the inner tube of the double tube located within the mold to form a hole in the circumferential wall of the outer tube via such indentation. Furthermore, the punch is placed in the mold in a watertight fashion.
