Patent number: 5859534Abstract: To judge with certainty whether the condition of attachment of each metal terminal is proper, a method and apparatus are provided in which a thinned distal end portion of a lance check pin having guide portions contacts an inner surface of a lance flexing space. The lance check pin, when inserted into the lance flexing space, is kept in a proper posture by the guide portions. Therefore, misjudgment of the terminal position is avoided.Type: GrantFiled: November 15, 1994Date of Patent: January 12, 1999Assignee: Sumitomo Wiring SystemsInventors: Eiji Saijo, Masahiko Aoyama, Keigo Atsumi

Patent number: 5445530Abstract: A lever includes regulating projections, whereas guide grooves are formed in outer walls of a male connector housing. If the lever is inserted into the male connector housing with force when the former is mounted on the latter, the regulating projections abut against the bottoms of the guide grooves to stop the entrance of the lever. As a result, erroneous entrance of lever support shafts into cam grooves is avoided.Type: GrantFiled: December 22, 1993Date of Patent: August 29, 1995Assignee: Sumitomo Wiring SystemsInventors: Nori Inoue, Hitoshi Okumura, Youichi Nankoh, Hiroyuki Nakata

Patent number: 5444182Abstract: A connector cover for a wire harness includes a main cover composed of a hinged pair of half case bodies and a secondary cover composed of a hinged pair of semicylindrical bodies. The main cover is formed with an opening for affixing to the back of the connector and a circular opening with a circular ridge elongating inside surface for passing the wire extending from the connector when the half case bodies are closed. The secondary cover having both ends opened for taking in the wire harness and is formed with a cylindrical opening with a channel grove extending therearound for passing the wire when the semicylindrical bodies are closed, and is connected to the main cover such that the circular ridge of the main cover fits in the channel groove around the cylindrical opening, in a manner easy to rotate with respect to the main cover.Type: GrantFiled: December 13, 1993Date of Patent: August 22, 1995Assignee: Sumitomo Wiring SystemsInventor: Kazuhiro Hoshino

Patent number: 5437565Abstract: For effecting a terminal insertion operation with respect to a connector in which a retainer is disposed in a completely-retained position before inserting metal terminals, the metal terminal is inserted into a terminal receiving chamber. As a result, the metal terminal abuts against a slanting guide surface formed on the retainer. When the metal terminal is further advanced, an engagement force in the completely-retained position is released, so that the retainer is forced back to a provisionally-retained position where an engagement projection piece is retracted from the terminal receiving chamber. The retainer thus disposed in the provisionally-retained position is again pushed into the completely-retained position, thereby finishing the insertion of the metal terminal.Type: GrantFiled: December 9, 1993Date of Patent: August 1, 1995Assignee: Sumitomo Wiring SystemsInventors: Keigo Atsumi, Eiji Saijo

Patent number: 5378168Abstract: A lock arm is integrally formed on an outer surface of a connector housing of an insertable connector through a support leg and is engaged with a lock projection on a relay connector portion. A pair of protective walls are provided respectively on opposite sides of the lock arm and are spaced from the lock arm. The protective walls are disposed at a region corresponding to a gap between the lock arm and the connector housing. The front end portions of these protective walls are interconnected by a bridge portion. With this arrangement, a wire is prevented from being caught in the gap between the lock arm and the connector housing.Type: GrantFiled: September 2, 1993Date of Patent: January 3, 1995Assignee: Sumitomo Wiring SystemsInventor: Tatsuya Sumida

Patent number: 4902247Abstract: An electrical connector, particularly adapted for use in motor vehicles, having an outer wall, a housing cap adapted to cover the front end of the housing, and one or more wire assemblies each having a terminal recess on the inside surface thereof. The assembly is adapted to be inserted into the housing from the rear and the housing has a corresponding number of receiving passages extending longitudinally therethrough. There is a narrowed portion of the passages which forces the assemblies being inserted outwardly against a deflectable arm in the outer wall. When the assembly is completely in place, the narrowed portion fits into the terminal recess, thereby permitting the flexible portion of the outer wall to return to its normal position. Thus, unless the assemblies are fully seated, the housing cap cannot be fitted over the housing, thereby preventing misassembly of the connector.Type: GrantFiled: June 13, 1988Date of Patent: February 20, 1990Assignee: Sumitomo Wiring SystemsInventors: Izumi Suzuki, Hideki Ogawa
