Publication number: 20250356994Abstract: A system and method identify and track surgical assets on surgical trays using a combination of human-readable primary asset identification objects and unique tray identifiers. The human-readable primary asset identification objects, such as laser-engraved metal stickers, are affixed to the trays and feature short, easily-readable asset identifiers such as numbers or letters. Similarly, secondary asset identification objects may provide additional identifiers that, when combined with primary asset identifiers, enhance the specificity of asset identification. These identifiers are minimal in information content, facilitating quick and error-free human readability. Each tray is associated with a unique tray identification object that is machine-readable, containing a unique identifier for the tray. The (primary or primary and secondary) asset identifiers on the human-readable objects, when combined with the tray's unique identifier, create a globally unique identifier for each asset.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 28, 2025Publication date: November 20, 2025Applicant: Summate Technologies, Inc.Inventor: Philip William Sayles

Patent number: 11663428Abstract: A first signal is ready from a first machine-readable object, which may be part of a peg stored in a surgical asset tray. A first part number of a first surgical asset is identified based on the first signal. A label is printed to include a first machine-readable visual indicia representing the first part number. A second signal is optically read from the first machine-readable visual indicia. The first part number of the first surgical asset is identified based on the second signal. The first part number of the first surgical asset is stored in a non-transitory computer-readable medium. This method enables information about surgical assets used in the field to be transferred from machine-readable objects into electronic data stores efficiently, effectively, and semi-automatically.Type: GrantFiled: May 19, 2021Date of Patent: May 30, 2023Assignee: Summate Technologies, Inc.Inventor: Philip William Sayles

Patent number: 11580491Abstract: The preset invention is an inventory-parts control system and supervisory arrangement suitable for tracking the actual use of and accounting for the ultimate disposition of at least some of the individual pieces constituting an implant (or a complete implant construct), which is then being surgically engrafted in-vivo. This inventory-parts control system and supervisory arrangement is accurate, reliable, and fully functional for inventory part control purposes during the surgery; and will account for the ultimate disposition of each required component item of that implant (or complete implant construct) individually and in a timely manner, as each part is individually surgically introduced and engrafted in-vivo at a preselected anatomic site upon or within the body of a living subject.Type: GrantFiled: May 12, 2020Date of Patent: February 14, 2023Assignee: Summate Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Philip Sayles, Todd Rosseau

Patent number: 10909343Abstract: A peg, suitable for insertion into a hole in a surgical tray, includes a cap piece, a directional member, and a columnar protrusion. The cap piece includes a machine-readable object that contains data representing information about one or more surgical assets. The directional member has a directional feature which points in a particular direction and which may be oriented to point to one or more surgical assets having the properties represented by the data on the machine-readable object. The columnar protrusion is suitable for being securely inserted into a hole in the surgical tray, such as by being pushed into a hole in a rubber footer. Removal of a surgical asset from the tray is performed by reading data from the machine-readable object that points to the surgical asset and using that data to modify a count of the type of object contained in the tray.Type: GrantFiled: July 12, 2019Date of Patent: February 2, 2021Assignee: Summate Technologies, Inc.Inventor: Philip William Sayles

Patent number: 10786331Abstract: A tray includes a plurality of rows, each of which includes a plurality of slots. Each row contains a plurality of screws. Different rows may contain screws of different types, e.g., lengths. Each of one or more rows contains a machine-readable object (e.g., peg) containing both: (1) machine-readable data representing one or more properties of the objects in the corresponding rows, and (2) human-readable indicia representing one or more properties of the objects in the corresponding rows. Removal of an object from a row is performed by reading data from the machine-readable object in the row and using that data to modify (e.g., decrement or increment) a count of the type of object contained in that row.Type: GrantFiled: September 17, 2019Date of Patent: September 29, 2020Assignee: SUMMATE TECHNOLOGIES, INC.Inventors: Philip Sayles, Todd Rosseau
