Patent number: 7669784Abstract: An agricultural sprayer implement which includes a wheeled main body and a cantilevered boom. The cantilevered boom has a plurality of sections which fold with respect to one another and place significant torsional stress on one or more of the boom sections. The interior boom sections have a cylindrical tube as a lower member and preferably a square tube as an upper member with a plurality of braces extending between them. The cylindrical tube resists the torsional stress which is maximized during folding of the boom. The square tube resists particularly an upward/downward bending moment.Type: GrantFiled: March 14, 2006Date of Patent: March 2, 2010Assignee: Summers Manufacturing Co., Inc.Inventor: David J. Sobolik

Patent number: 7188680Abstract: An agricultural implement includes a pivoting assembly, a working assembly, and a tow bar assembly. The working assembly includes a front gang of coulters and a rear gang of coulters. The pivoting assembly includes a hydraulic cylinder. The hydraulic cylinder is adjusted between an extended orientation, a retracted orientation, a floating orientation, and a level orientation. The extended orientation places a greater portion of the weight of the working assembly on the rear gang of coulters. The retracted orientation places a greater portion of the weight of the working assembly on the front gang of coulters. The level orientation locks the hydraulic cylinder so that an equal portion of the weight of the working assembly is placed on the rear and the front gang of coulters. The floating orientation allows the front and the rear gang of coulters to follow the terrain of the land being conditioned.Type: GrantFiled: February 6, 2004Date of Patent: March 13, 2007Assignee: Summers Manufacturing Co., Inc.Inventor: Peter D. Patent number: 6505688Abstract: A seed bed packer including a frame, a plurality of wheels connected to the frame, and a soil packing element. The packer also includes a spring shank for transferring weight from the frame to the soil packing element. The spring shank includes a first leg connected to the frame and a second leg connected to the soil packing element. When weight is transferred through the spring shank to the packing element, the first and second legs flex toward one another. The spring shanks are capable of distributing the weight of the frame between the wheels and the packing element, while concurrently providing sufficient flexibility to allow the packing element generally uniformly pack the soil, even over rough terrain.Type: GrantFiled: September 6, 2000Date of Patent: January 14, 2003Assignee: Summers Manufacturing Co., Inc.Inventor: Peter D. Patent number: 6293475Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a folding boom for an agricultural sprayer. The boom includes a first piece pivotally connected to a second piece. The folding boom also includes a hydraulic cylinder for hydraulically pivoting the first boom piece relative to the second boom piece between a folded orientation and an extended orientation. The hydraulic cylinder includes a cylinder portion in which a piston structure is mounted. The cylinder portion and the piston structure are configured to slide axially relative to one another when the first boom piece is pivoted relative to the second boom piece. The folding boom further includes an accumulator in fluid communication with the cylinder portion for accumulating hydraulic fluid when the first boom piece collides with an obstruction and is pivoted from the extended orientation toward the folded orientation.Type: GrantFiled: January 31, 2000Date of Patent: September 25, 2001Assignee: Summers Manufacturing Co., Inc.Inventor: David J. Patent number: 5165665Abstract: The adjustable jack mechanism of this invention incorporates a base structure having a support tube, with a plurality of angulated leg supports projecting radially therefrom and which allow pivoting of the support legs to positions parallel with the support tube. A plurality of support legs are pivotally connected to the leg support elements and are stabilized relative to the support tube by a support ring and pivotal support links. An elevation tube is telescopically movable within the support tube and is selectively locked relative thereto by a primary lock including a locking ring that is angulated by an external locking element for frictional gripping relation with the elevation tube. A jack screw is telescopically positioned within the elevation tube and is vertically adjustable by rotation of an adjustment nut for raising or lowering an object support provided at the upper end thereof.Type: GrantFiled: October 25, 1991Date of Patent: November 24, 1992Assignee: Summer Manufacturing Co.
