Abstract: A rigid crosslinked polymer having effective levels of chain entanglement crosslinking produced by a rapid rate polymerization procedure which comprises the steps of creating a radical flux by providing monomer units with an effective amount of an initiator to initiate polymer growth. dispersing the monomers and initiator to form an aqueous dispersion, and heating the aqueous dispersion to a temperature greater than the ten-hour half-life temperature of the initiator.
Abstract: An aqueous phase inhibitor for quenching free radical polymerization comprising a free radical quenching agent having a hydrophilic tail is disclosed, as well as a coating and related methods. In one embodiment, the free radical quenching agent can either be an N-hydroxylamine or an N-nitrosonamine, the hydrophilic tail can be a polyhydric alcohol tail and the inhibitor can be a concentrate in a liquid medium such as water, alcohol and mixture thereof.
Abstract: A rigid chain entanglement crosslinked polymer made by dispersing at lease one monomer and at least one initiator in an immiscible liquid medium to form a liquid dispersion; and decomposing the initiator in the fluid dispersion to activate polymerization and thereby produce a chain entanglement crosslinked polymer; and the polymer that can be utilized as proppants, as ball bearings, as lubriglide monolayers, and for drilling mud applications
Abstract: A drilling fluid additive for use during drilling and excavating applications, the additive comprises a mixture of an oil, an ester alcohol, nonionic surfactant and polypropylene glycol; and a method for manufacturing a drilling fluid additive comprising the step of admixing an oil, an ester alcohol, a nonionic surfactant, and a polypropylene glycol.
Abstract: A method of treating oil contaminated cuttings comprising the steps of: contacting the oil contaminated cuttings with a detergent solution comprising a solvent and a surfactant selected from the group consisting of alcohol ethoxylates, phenol ethoxylates, alkylphenol ethoxylates, amine ethoxylates, thioethers, and combinations thereof so as to wash the oil from the cuttings and into the detergent solution; and separating the washed cuttings from the detergent solution containing the removed oil. The detergent solution containing the removed oil is optionally recycled back into the drilling mud.
Abstract: The present invention provides a dispersant for water-based, solids-containing fluids comprising a copolymer of a sulfonated styrene monomer and a second monomer selected from the group consisting of maleic anhydride, maleimide, and dimethyl maleate, wherein the copolymer contains an amide formed on the second monomer. The amide can be formed on the second monomer by a reaction using a nitrogen source selected from the group consisting of ammonia, primary amines, and secondary amines. The dispersant can be used to form a water based drilling fluid. The present invention also provides a process of producing the dispersant.
