  • Patent number: 5778717
Abstract: The present invention relates to a process and to a device for the rolling of bands (B) with uneven thickness and/or length distribution over their width by using at least one control roller (5, 9, 21, 27, 41, 43) located on the inlet and/or outlet side of a mill (W, W', W") and capable of swiveling in its position relative to the band (B), making it possible in case of minor disturbances, independently of the existing operating conditions, to compensate for the running of a band caused by unevenness in the thickness and/or length distribution over the width of the band. This is achieved according to the invention in that the distribution of the tensile stress over the width of the band (B) is detected with at least one measuring device (7, 11, 25) and in that the control roller (5, 9, 21, 27, 41, 43) is adjusted in function of the detected distribution of tensile stress until the detected distribution of tensile stress is equal to a desired value.

  • Patent number: 5579788
Abstract: In an apparatus for the surface treatment of material to be treated by means of a treatment liquid, in particular a band pickling plant, with a vessel (1) receiving the treatment liquid (F), through which the material (S) to be treated can be conveyed, with a lid (2) with which the vessel (1) can be tightly sealed, with an inlet and outlet opening (4, 5) through which the material (S) to be treated enters into and exits from the vessel (1), and with suction openings (9a, 11a) through which the evaporated treatment liquid (F) can be sucked off from the vessel (1), the quantity of the gas to be discharged is reduced in accordance with the invention and, simultaneously, the danger of damaging the material (S) to be treated is reduced without impairing the performance of the apparatus in such a way that in the zone of the inlet and outlet opening (4, 5) of the vessel (1) one inlet chamber and one outlet chamber (9, 11) are separated from the inner space (8) of the vessel (1) by at least one shut-off partition (7,

  • Patent number: 5558017
Abstract: In a roll stand, more particularly a cluster roll stand, having guard plates (15, 21) which are disposed opposite one another in pairs above and below the strip (B) processed in the roll stand in the run-in zone (E) and run-out zone (A) of the roll stand and which extend into the roll stand substantially as far as the stand working rolls (1, 8) supported by supporting rolls (2-6a, 9-13a) and/or undriven supporting rollers, the lower guard plates (21) each being connected to the lower member (14) of the stand pivotably around a pivot (22) disposed axis-parallel with the working rolls (1, 8), the objective was to improve the protective effect of the guard plates (15, 21), while at the same time reducing expenditure on the lifting means required to lift the upper working roll (1).

  • Patent number: 5484513
Abstract: The invention relates to a process and apparatus for producing a rough and hard generated surface on a cylindrical body of rotation, more particularly a roll for metal strips. To rapidly obtain as uniform a surface roughness as possible, the body of rotation (2), acting as a cathode, is immersed over its whole length into an electrolyte (1) in a tank (3) only to such an extent that the immersed peripheral portion is narrower by a multiple than a plate-shaped anode (5) disposed opposite the body of rotation and extending over its whole length. The electrolyte can contain a substance suitable as a finishing deposit on the generated surface.

  • Patent number: 5445212
Abstract: The invention relates to a casting wheel of a strip casting machine. The casting wheel comprises a casting ring (30) mounted and borne internally on freely rotatable rollers (31a, b, 33a, b). In the zone of the position at the start of casting, the rollers (31a, b) are rigidly mounted via a supporting element (32), while on the opposite side they are radially adjustable via a-supporting element (34a, b). In this way deformations of the casting ring (30) due to heating during casting can be absorbed without a change in the position of the casting ring (30) as at the start of casting. The casting ring (30) is driven from outside via at least one driving element (30b) which is connected via a transmission member (30a) to the casting ring (30).

  • Patent number: 5265441
Abstract: The invention relates to a device for cooling a laminar material, more particularly a metal strip 2, by liquid nozzles 11a, 11b, 12a, 12b disposed on both sides. The liquid nozzles 11a, 11b, 12a, 12b take the form of full-jet nozzles and so act upon the surface of the material 2 to be cooled by rebounding jets that zones of shooting flow SS are formed around the point of impingement of the individual rebounding jets.

  • Patent number: 5248109
Abstract: The invention relates to a positioning apparatus for coils, more particularly of metal strip, to be fitted on to a reeling drum. To determine on all sides the internal diameter of the coil 1 and its vertical and lateral position in relation to the reeling drum 2, the internal contour of the coil 1 is determined by a measuring head 13 which measures 360.degree. and, in dependence on the measured values to be obtained, by comparison with the corresponding measured values for the reeling drum 2 adjusting members are acted upon for the vertical adjustment of a lifting carriage 3 for the coil 1 and/or the lateral offsetting and/or the relative rotation between the coil 1 and the reeling drum 2.

  • Patent number: 5086826
Abstract: The cast metal strip is retained on both sides between supporting and conveying elements, the supporting and conveying elements comprising on one side a group of wire cables 6, 12, 18, 27 and on the other side either a similar group of wire cables 5, 24 or a cooling roller 11, 17 or a coiler 23. The wire cables 5, 6, 17, 18, 24 and 27 ensure that the cast metal strip 4 is guided with as small a contact area as possible, so that on the one hand the strip is less stressed and on the other hand can irradiate heat.
