  • Patent number: 5184788
Abstract: An apparatus for coiling webs of material, more particularly webs of material (5) arriving from a ribbon casting machine, and for coiling the webs of material (5) if necessary. For the purposes of guiding and coiling, brush rollers (20, 21, 23-26) are used consisting of axially spaced-out annular disc-shaped brush elements between which guide elements (27) extending in the direction in which the ribbon runs are disposed, which prevent the web of material (5) of low rigidity from becoming wound around a brush roller (20, 21, 23-26).

  • Patent number: 5106028
Abstract: A contact pressure parting device for applying a continuously moving metal strip (1) to a winding reel (2). The contact pressure device comprises a contact pressure element (7) which is disposed on the rear side of the strip (1) remote from the winding reel (2) by which the strip (1) can be forced on to the winding reel (2), which is provided with an adhesive (3). The contact pressure and parting device also has a blade (8) which is disposed downstream of the contact pressure element (7), viewed in the direction of strip travel, and can be advanced against the rear side of the strip (1) and which when its cutting edge (8a) impinges on the strip (1) parts the strip (1), the blade (8) then being swung away from the strip (1) and the winding reel (2). In its starting position the cutting edge (8a) of the blade (8) is disposed upstream, viewed in the direction of strip travel, of the place (P) on the strip (1) situated closest to the pivoting axis (12) of the blade (8).

  • Patent number: 5007273
Abstract: In a multi-roll stand having laterally supported working rolls 4, each working roll 4 is supported at at least one side against a radially unmounted lateral intermediate roll 5, which, for its part, is supported against a first, radially mounted supporting roller 6 and a further, radially unmounted intermediate roll 7. The further intermediate roll 7 is supported against a second, radially supported supporting roller 8 and against that intermediate roll 3 of a six-high roll stand which supports the working roll 4 vertically or against the supporting roll of a four-high roll stand. By virtue of this type of lateral support, the risk of slip between the working roll 4 and the lateral intermediate roll 5 supporting it is reduced because a torque is transmitted to the intermediate roll 5 from the intermediate roll 3 or supporting roll of the roll stand via the further lateral intermediate roll 7. In addition, the space for the lateral support can be better utilized for an increase in the supporting forces.

  • Patent number: 4866967
Abstract: To obtain flat component strips from a cold-rolled metal strip inexpensively and with the minimum use of technical apparatus, slitting shears 5 are disposed between sets of tensioning drums 3, 4; 11, 12, more particularly between the inlet side set of tensioning drums 3, 4 and a straightening unit 6 of a stretch flattening apparatus for a metal strip 1. This arrangement of the slitting shears eliminates the additional stretch flattening of the component strips otherwise required after the metal strip itself has already been stretch flattened. The component strips between the two sets of tensioning drums 3, 4; 11, 12 also acquire the same length.

  • Patent number: 4805433
Abstract: In a multi-roll rolling stand having two intermediate rolls 3 to 6, which each have only one tapered roll barrel end, in each case two tapered roll barrel ends lie on each side of the rolling stand. The intermediate rolls 3, 4 and 5, 6, the two roll barrel ends of which lie on the same side of the rolling stand, are independently displaceable in an axial direction. Due to the axial offset of the tapered roll barrel ends which can be achieved in this manner, the support curve of the work rolls 1, 2 in the edge regions of the rolled strip can be finely adjusted. In addition, the support curve in the center region of the strip can also be adjusted if in each case one of the two work rolls 3, 4 associated with each work roll 1, 2 is contoured.

  • Patent number: 4719963
Abstract: The invention relates to a process and apparatus for the casting of metal strands, more particularly in the form of strips. The molten metal emerging from a slotted die 2 is applied to the cooling surface of a cooling member 1 which is moved past the slotted die 2. Allowing for the law of solidification, at the start of casting the strip outlet side die lip is gradually increased from a minimum distance from the cooling surface to the required final distance in such a way that the free gap between the wedge-shaped developing solidification front of the cast strip 7 and the die lip 5 remains small enough to prevent the molten metal from flowing out through the gap in an uncontrolled manner. The end face edge of the slotted die 2 can be borne via one or more gas cushions on the cooling surface and the free surface of the cast strand.

  • Patent number: 4347962
Abstract: Web unwound from a supply roll is slit into a plurality of bands by a slitting unit comprising circular disc blades. The individual bands are subjected to tension by a brake roll assembly positioned before the take up roll to hold the individual bands taut with a predetermined braking force in such manner that different degrees of slippage relative to the brake roll and the individual bands are effected.

  • Patent number: 4244534
Abstract: A strip coiler has an expandable coiling drum having on one end an outward flange which fits against an outward end flange on the end of a rotative drive shaft. The interfaces of the flanges have radial interlocking grooves and ridges. To hold the flanges tightly together, a collar encircles the flanges and has inward flanges embracing the outward flanges of the drum and shaft. The drum's flange and the corresponding inward flange of the ring form a bayonet joint so that by partial relative rotation of the ring and drum the drum can be removed and replaced. The flange of the collar which engages the shaft's flange is provided with a fluid pressure means so that when the bayonet joint is in its locked condition, the drum and shaft flanges are forced tightly together when this means is provided with fluid pressure. Release of the fluid pressure permits relatively easy partial rotation to unlock the bayonet joint for removal or replacement of the drum and its flange with respect to the flange of the drive shaft.

  • Patent number: 4199117
Abstract: Winding device for metal strips, in which the metal strip is braked between two rollers which are pressed against one another. One of the rollers has a larger angle of wrap for the metal strip of at least 75.degree. and the other roller has a smaller angle of wrap for the metal strip of 45.degree. at maximum. The one roller with the larger wrap includes material on its periphery having a coefficient of friction for the material which is at least 20% lower relative to the braked metal strip than the coefficient of friction of the peripheral material of the other roller with the smaller amount of wrap.

  • Patent number: 4124415
Abstract: A process of treating metal strips using a linear electric motor with spaced apart motor elements comprises directing the metal strips into the space between the motor elements and operating the motor to produce a travelling wave and advancing the strip between the motor parts without contact thereof at a velocity greatly reduced with respect to the velocity of the linear electric motor wave so as to produce a slippage between the wave and the strip and to effect the heating of the strip as it is advanced. The apparatus includes a linear electric motor including a first motor unit spaced away from a second motor unit in the form of a linear motor or return bar so as to form a gap therebetween through which the metal strip is advanced. The apparatus includes means for feeding the strip through straightening rolls and cropping shears, S-rollers and coiling and uncoiling reels.

  • Patent number: 4022367
Abstract: A device for conveying the leading edges of metal strips, belts and sheets to a fixation point on a reel drum for winding thereon includes a carriage which is movable from a pickup station in which clamping means on the carriage engages with the belt at a spaced location from its leading edge through an affixation point on the winding drum at which the leading edge is engaged so that it may be wound on the drum. The carriage carries the clamping means and in addition it carries first and second limitation members which are engageable with the metal sheet between the clamping location and the forward edge. The limitation members are mounted on the carriage so that they may be moved outwardly and inwardly in respect to the clamping means and upwardly and downwardly in respect to the associated sheet so that they may be selectively and independently positioned so as to locate the edge of the sheet exactly in respect to a fixation point on the windup drum.
