Patent number: 8089763Abstract: A heat-dissipating assembly for a server includes a housing in which a partitioning plate and a power supply mounted on one side of the partitioning plate are provided. The power supply includes a casing and a power-supplying module received in the casing. The heat-dissipating assembly includes a fan received in the casing and located outside the power-supplying module. The partitioning plate and the casing are respectively provided with a plurality of first heat-dissipating holes and second heat-dissipating holes. The first heat-dissipating holes and the second heat-dissipating holes are positioned to correspond to the fan. The airflow caused by the fan drives the air inside the housing to flow out of the housing via the first heat-dissipating holes and the second heat-dissipating holes. In this way, the heat-dissipating efficiency can be improved without affecting the arrangement of other electronic devices in the housing.Type: GrantFiled: April 7, 2010Date of Patent: January 3, 2012Assignee: Super Micro Computer Inc.Inventor: Te-Chang Lin

Patent number: 7822127Abstract: Techniques for minimizing signal loss in transit are described. Data signals lose their strengths while traveling across conductive passages such as cooper wire, cooper strip, Printed Circuit Board (PCB), etc. There are two major factors that affect the signal loss: the distance and the speed. To minimize signal loss while maintaining higher rate data signals for I/O, substantially lower rate data signals are used in transit between two interfaces over a signal path.Type: GrantFiled: May 15, 2006Date of Patent: October 26, 2010Assignee: Super Micro Computer, Inc.Inventors: Ben-Koon Lin, Charles J. Patent number: 7813146Abstract: Techniques pertaining to powering multiple platforms with a minimum impact on air passage in a predefined environment are disclosed. Instead of connecting each of the platforms in a chassis to a power supply therein, the present invention uses what is referred to as cascading powering to power all platforms within minimum cable delivery. According to one embodiment of the present invention, each platform is provided with a pair of power connectors. At least one of the platforms has a power connector located towards or near a power supply so that only a short cable is needed to power the platform. The power is serially provided to an adjacent platform via a pair of corresponding connectors, each located on one of the two adjacent platforms. Such configuration is extended to the remaining platforms. As a result, all platforms are powered by the same power supply without using individual cables directly to the power supply.Type: GrantFiled: October 11, 2006Date of Patent: October 12, 2010Assignee: Super Micro Computer, Inc.Inventor: Manhtien Phan
