  • Patent number: 7610072
Abstract: An inter-resonator coupling scheme for a filter is disclosed. An inter-resonator coupling member is located between successive resonators in the filter. By adjusting the length and/or the proximity of the inter-resonator coupling member relative to the adjacent resonators, the ratio of energy transferred from resonator to resonator (via the inter-resonator coupling member) may be increased and/or decreased. By increasing the ratio of energy transferred from resonator to resonator, the bandwidth of the filter is increased and is made relatively insensitive to tuning which may occur via manipulation of field disturbances introduced by tuning tips. The inter-resonator coupling member is made of a conductive or superconductive material and contains at least three sections. The first section runs substantially parallel to an edge of the first resonator that is not profoundly influenced by the source of field disturbance.

  • Patent number: 7231238
Abstract: Novel structures and methods for forming useful high temperature superconducting devices, most particularly resonators, are provided. Structures resulting in reduced peak current densities relative to known structures achieve numerous desirable benefits, especially including the reduced intermodulation effects of earlier resonators. In one aspect of this invention, a spiral in, spiral out resonator is provided, characterized in that it has an odd number of long runs, at least equal to five long runs, where the long runs are connected by turns, and wherein there are at least two sequential turns of the same handedness, followed by at least two turns of the opposite handedness. In yet another aspect of this invention, it has been discovered that reducing the size of the input and output pads of HTS resonators increases the relative inductance compared to the capacitance. Yet another resonator structure is a spiral snake resonator having a terminal end disposed within the resonator.

  • Patent number: 7137259
Abstract: A cryocooler cold end assembly is disclosed. The assembly includes a unitary external, outer housing. By constructing the housing from a single unitary metal shell, part count is reduced from prior art assemblies. Additionally, all brazing requirements previously necessary to secure and seal the components are eliminated. Further, due to one or more machining steps subsequent to manufacturing/forming the external sealed housing, the tolerances are improved. This allows for shrink to fit assembly of several components and also results in improved straight-line accuracy between the piston bore and the displacer cylinder. Due to this latter improvement, the need for a displacer liner is eliminated.

  • Publication number: 20060229211
Abstract: The films of this invention are high temperature superconducting (HTS) thin films specifically optimized for microwave and RF applications. In particular, this invention focuses on compositions with a significant deviation from the 1:2:3 stoichiometry in order to create the films optimized for microwave/RF applications. The RF/microwave HTS applications require the HTS thin films to have superior microwave properties, specifically low surface resistance, Rs, and highly linear surface reactance, Xs, i.e. high JIMD. As such, the invention is characterized in terms of its physical composition, surface morphology, superconducting properties, and performance characteristics of microwave circuits made from these films.

The filter network comprises a superconducting filter and a non-superconducting filter, or a combination thereof to form multiplexers. A receive side of the non-superconducting filter pre-filters received RF signals before inputting them to the superconducting filter. The non-superconducting filter is constructed and arranged to pass RF signals having a frequency within a first pass band to the superconducting filter. The superconducting device is constructed and arranged to exhibit a high-degree of frequency selectivity in further narrowing the received RF signals. Other aspects are directed to the arrangement, construction, and uses of the same structures to accomplish different but similar goals.

  • Patent number: 6924966
Abstract: A MEMS switch assembly comprising a substrate and a resilient switching member is provided. The resilient switching member comprises a transverse torsion member having a flexible portion, and a leaf spring and cantilever that extend from the flexible portion of the torsion member. • Patent number: 6876046
Abstract: The present invention alleviates stiction between a suspended beam or microstructure and an underlying substrate by providing a patterned passivation layer on the substrate underneath the beam. The passivation layer is patterned to provide a substrate surface that differs substantially from the bottom surface of the beam. The difference between these two surfaces reduces the potential contact area between the beam and the substrate when the beam is pulled down, thereby reducing adhesive forces between the beam and the substrate and reducing the likelihood of stiction. In one embodiment, the passivation layer is patterned to form a substrate surface comprising a plurality of protuberances. In another embodiment, the passivation layer is patterned to form a substrate surface having a mesh pattern.
