  • Patent number: 9560784
Abstract: A cover assembly for an outdoor electrical device includes a base having a rear wall with an adapter plate which surrounds the face of the device. A lid which is hinged to the base includes a front panel having an arched or curved contour. Projecting from the underside of the front panel is a grid of ribs having coplanar proximal edges. The distal face of a gasket seats against the proximal edges and the grid is open in a space behind a breakaway portion of the gasket. In the event the electrical device comprises a toggle switch, the breakaway portion is removed, leaving an opening such that the toggle switch lever can extend into the opening and, if necessary, into the open space, without distorting the proximal face of the gasket which seals against the rear wall when the lid is closed.

  • Patent number: 9478956
Abstract: An outdoor electrical device cover includes a lid having top, bottom and side walls with a laterally projecting flange having a peripheral skirt. A continuous channel is formed between the skirt and an inner rail of the lid flange. The lid is hinged to a base which includes top, bottom and side walls having a peripheral flange with a continuous channel. When the lid is closed, an inner rail of the lid flange seats in the base channel and an outer rail of the base flange seats in the lid channel to seal the electrical device from water penetration. At least one frangible panel provided in a wall of the lid is broken away to open a portal for an electric cord passageway into the interior of the cover when the lid is closed. A canopy arch flange overlies the passageway to shield against water entering through the open passageway.

  • Patent number: 9444179
Abstract: A cover for outdoor electrical devices includes a rectangular base having a rear, side and bottom panels. A peripheral flange surrounds the base. Haspways are provided in diagonally opposed corners of the flange, with the haspways being closed by a web. A lid is hinged to the top panel, for orientation in a vertical position or to a side panel for orientation in a horizontal position. An aperture at a lower corner of the lid registers with a lower haspway. To secure the cover, the lower haspway web is broken and padlock shackle inserted through the open haspway and lid aperture. The haspway at the upper corner of the base flange remains closed by the web to preclude the entrance of water into the interior of the cover.

  • Patent number: 9276389
Abstract: An electrical device cover includes an access panel having an orifice and an adapter plate configured with an opening dimensioned to receive the operative face of an electrical device. The front face of the access panel includes a depressed platform surrounding the orifice and dimensioned to receive the adapter plate. An interlock between the access panel and the adapter plate is provided by channels formed on the rear face of the adapter plate and the front of the access panel and fillets formed on the access panel, and adapter plate, the fillets being seated in the channels. The adapter plate includes a pair of trapezium flanges which define the longitudinal boundaries of the adapter plate and which are received in the depressed platform.

  • Patent number: 9219357
Abstract: A kit for covering electrical devices includes a housing having a rear panel which receives adapter plates. An opening in an adapter plate is defined by a forwardly tapered chamfered wall. A frustum insert having a chamfered wall opening may be received in the adapter plate opening and successive frustum inserts, each having a smaller chamfered wall opening, may be inserted within the opening of the prior insert. Each of the openings is dimensioned to receive the face of a different electrical device. A frustum plug having a rectangular toggle switch opening can be received in one of the chamfered openings. The top and side of the housing include arrays of hinge pins and a lid includes mating arrays of hinge knuckles. The lid is mounted to either array of pins. Selected pins have enlarged heads to prevent inadvertent disengagement.

  • Patent number: 7766396
Abstract: A coupling for non-metallic flexible electrical conduit is formed of a one piece lightweight molded thermoplastic cylindrical sleeve having a pair of threads extending inwardly toward opposite ends. Spaced axially inwardly from the inner end of each thread is an annular sealing ring having a sloped leading face and a perpendicular trailing face with the faces intersecting at a sharp annular edge. Lengths of conduit are engaged over opposite ends of the coupling and rotated to advance the conduit lengths over the sleeve. A liquid tight engagement is effective between each conduit length and the coupling when the conduit length advances past the sealing ring.

  • Patent number: 7658418
Abstract: A swivel coupling for electrical conduit is formed of a pair of arcuate tubular sections joined together at a pair of connecting flanges. A liquid tight seal is provided by an O-ring which seats in registered annular grooves in the face of each flange. A coupling nut tightens the flanges against one another. Formed at the end of one of the sections is a junction box fitting including a threaded nipple which is inserted through an opening of the junction box until a stop nut, positioned on the nipple, engages the box. A tightening nut is engaged over the nipple from the interior of the junction box to secure the swivel coupling to the box. The end of the other tubular section includes a conduit fitting for securing a length of electrical conduit. Because the stop nut is installed after the coupling nut has been advanced past the nipple, a reduced diameter coupling nut may be employed.

  • Patent number: 7048561
Abstract: A liquid tight connector for non-metallic conduit is formed of a one piece body having a through bore. A sleeve extends inwardly from one end of the body and a threaded nipple extends inwardly from the other. Projecting transversely from the inner end of the nipple is a flange. A ferrule skirt extends from the flange toward the sleeve end of the body to define an annular channel concentric with the sleeve. An internal buttress thread is formed on the inner wall of the skirt. An end of a length of conduit is slipped over the end of the sleeve and into the mouth of the channel. The connector is rotated relative to the conduit, with the thread engaging an outer wall of the conduit to tightly draw the channel over the conduit. An outward flare is provided at the flange end of the sleeve to compress and seal the conduit.
