  • Patent number: 4827677
Abstract: A method is described for grinding plane-parallel circular annular faces on disk-shaped workpieces, in particular on brake disks of motor vehicle disk brakes, in which the workpieces have different grinding allowances, with respect to their set-point position, on their surfaces to be machined and are machined from both sides with side grinding wheels by the face grinding process, and in which the machining is effected in a plurality of phases at dissimilar feed speeds. The machining is effected in one method step at dissimilar feed speeds (v.sub.3, v.sub.3'), from the point (P.sub.2, P.sub.2'), of the first contact of the grinding wheel with the workpiece up to a point (P.sub.3) on which on both sides of the workpiece, the same remaining grinding allowance (s.sub.0) with respect to the set-point location of the faces to be machined, exists. The dissimilar feed speeds (v.sub.3 ; v.sub.3') are matched to one another such that the point (P.sub.3) at which the same remaining grinding allowance (s.sub.

  • Patent number: 4811523
Abstract: An apparatus for fine machining of plane surfaces of disk-shaped workpieces having an unmachined bearing side and a slight wall thickness is described. The apparatus is provided with a chuck, preferably realted, for receiving the workpiece and a cup wheel. To assure that the pieces are supported over a defined and sufficiently large area to prevent both tilting during the machining and bending due to the machine pressure, so that a surface of highly accurate shape is attainable, the chuck for receiving the workpiece is provided with three fixed support pins distributed over the circumference and against which the workpiece is pressed. Between the three fixed support pins, a plurality of further support elements are provided, which can be supportingly fixed against the bearing side of the workpiece once the workpiece has been placed upon the three fixed support pins.

  • Patent number: 4222203
Abstract: A method and device for machining the tappet collars of the inner rings of roller bearings by means of a frusto-conical cup wheel is proposed wherein such cup wheel is adjustable in the axial direction of the workpiece into engagement with the surface to be machined, is angularly adjustable about a remote axis perpendicular to the axis of the workpiece to provide for an adjustment in the inclination of the annular abrading surface of the cup wheel relative to the surface to be machined, and is supported for linear oscillating movement in a direction substantially parallel to the latter surface.

  • Patent number: 4048764
Abstract: Method for micro-finish machining of circular arc-shaped profiled surfaces in annular workpieces utilizing a honing tool. After an initial grinding operation the profiled surfaces of the workpieces are micro-finish machined using two machining phases. During the first machining phase the workpieces are rotated at a first predetermined rotational velocity and the honing tool is pressed against the profiled surfaces at a first predetermined pressure; while during the second machining phase the workpieces are rotated at a second predetermined rotational velocity and the honing tool is pressed against the profiled surfaces at a second predetermined pressure. Furthermore, the first predetermined rotational velocity is lower than the second predetermined rotational velocity while the first predetermined pressure is greater than the second predetermined pressure.

  • Patent number: 4024672
Abstract: Method and apparatus for micro-finish machining of cylindrical or conical surfaces on workpieces, and in particular the raceways of cylindrical or tapered roller bearings using a honing tool. The honing tool is subjected to two distinct motions in a direction parallel to the transverse direction of the surface of the raceway to be machined. One of the motions, the first oscillation, has a short stroke relative to the width of the surface to be machined, while the other motion extends over the entire width of the surface to be machined. The two motions are superimposed for achieving a surface contour of the raceway so that during full loading of the bearing, the raceway is subjected to approximately uniform surface pressure over the entire width of the raceway.

  • Patent number: 4004375
Abstract: The honing tool in a centerless honing apparatus is held in an oscillating head and is pressed against the workpiece transported by rotating rollers. The region of contact between the honing tool and the workpiece is immersed in a flushing liquid which serves to dislodge and remove abraded material from the contact surface of the honing tool. An ultrasonic generator is located near the honing tool and its transducer portion extends into the flushing liquid. The ultrasonic vibrations are transmitted by the flushing liquid to the honing tool, imparting thereto ultrasonic oscillations in a direction transverse to the rotational axis of the workpiece. The liquid also transmits ultrasonic vibrations directly to the contact area and to the embedded abraded material, thereby loosening it and permitting entrainment by the flushing liquid.
