  • Patent number: 8879769
Abstract: An earpiece that substantially lacks a lower lobe is disclosed. The earpiece has a generally arcuate rib having upper and lower ends. A generally vertical rib extends substantially between the upper and lower ends of the generally arcuate rib. A lobe is formed at the upper end of the arcuate rib. No lobe is similarly formed at the lower end of the arcuate rib. Eliminating the lower lobe mitigates discomfort during use and also reduces the likelihood of tissue damage and infection.

  • Patent number: 8840277
Abstract: A nonimaging light assembly for flashlights, including a light source and a lens symmetrical about an optical axis for receiving light from the light source and producing therefrom a light beam having concentrated and divergent components resulting in a high intensity core beam surrounded by a smoothly transitioning lower intensity surround beam. In a preferred embodiment utilizing a light emitting diode as the light source, the combined light beam produced by the light assembly has a substantially circular cross section.

  • Publication number: 20140254842
Abstract: System and methods can provide both hearing enhancement and hearing protection. An audiogram can be determined for either an individual person or a group of people. A frequency spectrum of an environment can be determined for an environment within which hearing enhancement and/or hearing protection is needed. The audiogram and the frequency spectrum of the environment can be used to modify an electronic signal to attenuate noise and to amplify information. The information can be voice, sirens, bells, or anything else that the user desires to hear.

  • Publication number: 20140231168
Abstract: In one example, a firearm sound suppressor includes a housing, a baffle, and an inner sleeve adapted to be disposed within the housing and to substantially surround the baffle. The inner sleeve includes a sidewall adapted to slide against the housing to permit the inner sleeve with the baffle to be selectively inserted into and removed from the housing without the baffle contacting the housing, and a longitudinal split extending through the sidewall and between front and rear ends of the inner sleeve to permit the sidewall to flex to permit removal of the baffle from the inner sleeve. Other embodiments are also contemplated.

A lobe can be formed at the upper end of the arcuate rib. No lobe is formed at the lower end of the arcuate rib. Eliminating the lower lobe mitigates discomfort during use and also reduces the likelihood of tissue damage and infection. The extension can enhance communication of desired sound, e.g., from a two-way radio, to an eardrum while mitigating communication of undesirable ambient noise to the eardrum. Other implementations and related methods are also disclosed.
